In the latest cabinet reshuffle by President YK Museveni on Saturday 14th Dec, Buganda sub-region as it wasn’t expected has this time taken the lion’s share of positions followed by Ankole.
They were followed by northern and eastern regions.
Of the 53-man Cabinet list, Buganda, which comprises 20 districts, has 18 ministers and state ministers. They include Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Agriculture Minister Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja, Minister for Public Service Muruli Mukasa and Lands Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.
Also on the list are Information Minister Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Trade Amelia Kyambadde, Works minister Gen Katumba Wamala, Minister for Higher Education, Chrysostom Muyingo and Minister for primary education Rose Mary Sseninde. Others are Water State minister Ronald Kubuule, Tourism minister Godrey Kiwanda, Kampala State minister Namugwanya Benah, State minister for Microfinance Haruna Kasolo, State minister for Children Affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and minister for Luweero Triangle Galabuzi Ssozi. The list also includes Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa and presidential advisors Janat Mukwaya and Abdul Nadduli.
Ankole sub-region has 11 Cabinet positions; Education minister Janet Museveni, Security Minister Elly Tumwine, Justice minister Ephraim Kamuntu, Gender minister Frank Tumwebaze, Local Government minister Raphael Magyezi, East African Affairs Minister Kahinda Otafiire, minister for General Duties in OPM Mary Karooro Okurut, and Science and Technology minister Elioda Tumwesigye. Others are Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa, Karamoja Affairs (John Byabagambi), Molly Kamukama (Minister for Economic Monitoring), Joy Kabatsi (Minister of State for Transport), Mwesigwa Rukutana (Minister of State for Labor) and Bright Rwamirama (Ministry of State of Veterinary Affairs).
Lango and Acholi sub-regions have 10 ministers in the cabinet. They include Internal Affairs minister Jeje Odongo, Refugees minister Hilary Onek, Betty Amongi (Kampala Affairs), and Aceng Ruth (Health). Others Kwiyucwiny Grace (Northern Uganda Minister), Obua Hamson (Sports), Engola Okello (Minister of State for Defence), Oryem Okello (Foreign affairs State minister), Evelyn Anite (Privatization), and Beatrice Anywar (Environment).
West Nile sub-region has five positions in the cabinet. They are Second Deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali, State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania, State Minister for Finance Gabriel Aridru Adjedra, Minister of State for Energy Simon D’ujanga and Minister for Primary Health Care Joyce Moriku Kaducu.
Busoga has nine ministers in the new cabinet. They include Kirunda Kivejinja as a second Prime Minister and minister without a portfolio, as well as Esther Mbayo Mbulakubuza, the minister for Presidency. The rest includes; Moses Kizige (Karamoja), Gume Ngobi (Cooperatives), Isaac Musumba (Urban development), Aggrey Bagiire (Agriculture) and Persis Namuganza (Lands). Monica Ntege Azuba is an advisory role.
Tooro, Rwenzori and Bunyoro sub-regions have 9 positions in the cabinet. They are Attorney general William Byaruhanga, Minister of Defense Adolf Mwesigye, Minister for Finance (Matia Kasaijja), and Minister of Tourism Tom Butime.
Others are Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs Ernest Kiiza, Minister of State for Veteran Affairs Christopher Kibanzanga, Robinah Nabbanjja (Health general duties), Attorney General (Jackson Kafuzi), Minister of State for Public Service (David Karubanga) and State Minister for Culture (Peace Mutuuzo).
Karamoja sub-region has Sam Lokeris (State Minister for Works) and Simon Lokodo (Minister for Ethics and Integrity).
