High court in Rukungiri presided over by Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi has today 9th May 2018 sentenced one man to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty for defiling his own daughter.

Edison Arinaitwe36 a resident of Kachindo, Kambunga Kanungu district pleaded guilty for defiling Moreen Akampurira 14.

Prosecution led by the resident state attorney Rukungiri district Muhereza told court that on 27/7/2016 while at his home, Arinaitwe defiled his own daughter Akampurira Moreen 11 years old then.

The prosecution added that Arinaitwe was examinewd and foun foun HIV positive.

The competition for Sheema Municipality Parliamentary seat has become stiffer after Eliodah Tumwesigye joined the race.
According to our credible sources, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye who is the Minister of innovations and science technology and the current Member of Parliament for Sheema North picked the forms from NRM electoral commission offices in Kyadondo.
The race for the hot seat also include; David Kamukama, a Kampala based young lawyer, Eng.Raymond Kamugisha from state house, Jonathan Bongonzya; a manufacturing consultant, Jonath Tumwiine; former commissioner in Public service commission, Cadre Mucunguzi; former RDC Kyotera ,Polly Nkwasiibwe Kataate and Joseph Mwebesa.
Elections for NRM primaries will be on 31st May 2018 according to the NRM electoral commission.

The Mbarara district Chairperson Cpt. JB Bamuturaki Tumusiime has challenged LC1 leaders on failure to settle simple cases of gender based violence in their localities.
JB said that local leaders keep a deaf ear to some cases and they fail to report or settle them with excuses that they are threatened by the family heads.
He noted that they should not be intimidated by any one as the government is supposed to supervise all the people and settle disputes within families therefore they should do their roles from the ground not from their offices.

He made these remarks while opening a two day training seminar for selected members of LC1 committees from three divisions of Kakoba, Nyamitanga and Nyakayojjo in Mbarara municipality which focused on gender based violence, case handling and referral pathway held at Pelkan Hote organized by MIFUMI.

The Mbarara district MIFUMI Coordinator Evelyne Kyomugisha Maridadi said that they expect these LC leaders to sensitize their people and learn how they can handle gender based violence cases with ease.
She said that these three selected divisions are statistically leading in gender based violence cases therefore they expect with this training the cases can reduce and have stable families in their societies.

Kampala International University Western campus students and staff have today cleaned Kizinda town in Bushenyi district as a measure to promote hygiene.
According to Andrew Ainomugisha PhD; the Dean Faculty of Business and Management, the operation was organized by faculty of business management and school of nursing sciences.
Andrew described the operation as a form of corporate social responsibility of giving back to the community by the institution noting that Kizinda was chosen because it accommodates the biggest percentage of the University students.
He further said that the activity is also a form of inspiration to the public on the value of sanitation and hygiene adding that it also portrays what the institution trains the students to be.
Mildred Akandiinda; the head of department of Developmental studies, appealed to the community to always be visible on such sensible programmes, adding that Kizinda was dirty.
Erick Onchari Osoro co-coordinator teaching and learning, nursing and midwifery revealed that the activity was part of learning to the students.
Osoro called upon the residents to always make good use of polythene and plastic paper bags saying that if not, the area is likely to face problems during this rainy season.
Laban Kiplanat; a first year student of Nursing expressed his appreciation to the University management for allowing them to practice what they study.
He also appealed to the community to observe the proper disposal of garbage, adding that it helps them to keep their lives clean.

The Bushenyi Resident district Commissioner Peter Mugisha has spoken out about the ongoing spate of criminality within the district.
A number of people have in past month been attacked, robbed and others killed by un identified groups of armed robbers.
While meeting radio station managers within Bushenyi district at his office today, Mugisha admitted that criminality is a big problem that needs to be combated by security agencies.
He called upon the public to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to fight against criminals.
He added that every family should at least buy a whistle and to have contacts of all heads of security so that whatever happens in the neighborhood the information is disseminated fast.
Mugisha caution people who are misleading the public by giving false information about them, saying so far the ones behind bars are all born in and around Bushenyi.
He also called upon all media houses to help in the fight against the criminals by informing the public and giving them the right information, not inciting violence or giving false information.

Grief engulfed the people of Nyarubungo in Rwampara County in Mbarara district, following the Murder of a two year old toddler.
Murungi Lowena Era a first born daughter of Muhumuza Andrew a police officer attached to very important persons protection unit (VIPPU) in Kireka, was allegedly kidnapped by a Pentecostal church pastor on 12th April and immediately demanded for a 5 million shillings ransom from her parents.
Though the parents alerted police they however paid some money to Kidnappers but to their surprise the Kidnappers strangled the toddler and dumped the body in a swamp around Rugando Sub County along Mbarara Ntungamo district.
Police tracked and arrested the Pastor Ngasirwe Godfrey who after interrogation led security to the swamp where the body was retrieved this morning.
Mbarara district police commander Jaffar Magyezi said the Kid was strangled by pastor’s wife after learning that police had arrested some their people adding that the dumping of the body in the swamp was disguise that the kid had drowned.
He said eleven people have so far been arrested in connection to the murder of the toddler, among them is a sixty year old man who recently also Kidnapped a student in the same Sub County but police managed to rescue him.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Kasasira Samson said the suspects are undergoing serious interrogation to find out why people from the same Sub county Kidnapped and killed such a young child

Following the release of election road map for new municipalities, town councils and sub counties by the electoral commission, five people have shown interest in the race for Sheema municipality Member of Parliament.

Interested candidates include; former Sheema North aspirant Mr. Jonas Tumwine alias ‘Omushana Gwa Sheema’, Mr. Jonathan Bongonzya, Nkwasiibwe Kataate and Kyotera Resident District Commissioner Cadre Mucunguzi. The these have directly shown their interests since the formation of the municipality.
Others interested candidates include the minister for innovation science and technology and MP for Sheema North, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye and former Sheema District Woman MP, Ms. Rosemary Nyakikongoro.
Our effort to get a comment from the two above to confirm whether they are still interested didn’t yield result since they couldn’t answer our calls nor reply our sms.

Tooro province team moves to the third position of group D in the FUFA Drum tournament with 4points after losing 1-0 against West Nile in a return leg game played at Buhinga play grounds Fort Portal municipality Kabarole district.
Alfred Leku, a forward at Express Football Club scored the all important goal for visiting West Nile.
Soana Football Club captain who also doubles as the skipper for the Tooro Province, Timothy Musinguzi was named man of the match despite being on the losing side and was thereafter handed a plaque and cash (Shs. 100,000) by the FUFA President, Eng. Moses Magogo
Fredo Muhumuza, the Tooro province coach, attributed the loss on the lack of focus by the players at the end of the march.
The game was graced by the presence of the Tooro kingdom King his highness Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. as the chief guest.
Tooro province is to play with Ankole in the next fixture and West Nile will face Karamoja.
Meanwhile at kyamate play ground, Ankole over came Karamoja with a whooping 3-1 win.
The goals came from Mbarara City’s Clinton Kamugisha who scored and an equalizer after Kodet Fera of Jam football club had put karamoja ahead with one goal.
Others on the score sheet were Siraje Turyamureeba and Muhammad Matovu of Rushere FC who was the man of match.
Matovu was handed a plaque and cash amounting to ug shs 100,000 by the south Ankole Bishop Nathan Ahimbisiibwe.

The king of Toro kingdom; His Majesty Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukiidi IV has called upon the people of Toro region to cooperate and support their young talented footballers in the Sunday’s game between Toro province and West Nile.
Toro province team which is in the second position with 4points will be hosting west Nile on Sunday at Buhinga play grounds in Fort portal municipality Kabarole district in their returning leg in the drum tournament.
King Oyo was speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter yesterday shortly after a meeting with the FUFA president; Moses Hashim Magogo at his Karuzika palace in Fort portal.
King OYO urged the people of Toro to support the team that will give morale to the players to compete favorably and win the game thus, putting the kingdom on the whole map of Uganda.
Oyo, however, promised to support sports in the region citing that it’s through sports that we can raise Tooro cultures and norms as well promoting friendship with in.

Norman Lukumu, the Bunyoro Kitara kingdom prime mister in contention has vowed not to serve as the Bunyoro prime minister again unless irregularities in the Bunyoro Kitara kingdom are sorted out.

Lukumu said this yesterday evening while addressing journalists at his home in Kisita cell Masindi municipality.

He says he cannot continue working in a situation where every person is issuing letters baring a seal and stamp of the king. He added that he is not fighting for the position of the prime minister but regretting what is happening in the kingdom

He noted that he has been receiving letters from the king recalling him to the office but he cannot go back there due to the confusion prevailing in the palace. He added that even the king has been going to his home requesting him to report to the office noting that he cannot risk following the letters which are coming from different corners baring King’s signature and the stamp.

Norman Lukumu was appointed prime minister in 2015 and sacked in January 2018 .In January this year the Omukama, Solomon Iguru, appointed Andrew Byakutaga, as the new prime minister but  Lukumu rushed to Masindi high court to challenge his sacking  where his application was dismissed.

Last week a letter signed by Omukama, Solomon Iguru, and witnessed by the principal judge Yorokamu Bamwine was issued from the Kingdom, recalling Lukumu to resume his duties as the kingdom prime minister.

However, a few days later, the King disowned the letter, saying he had been misled by the Kingdom speaker Jos Wamara.

Lukumu the prime mister in contention said that he has never taken part in forging any letter recalling him back to his job as people are saying noting that he was called by the principal judge, Yorokamu Bamwine in Kampala to witness the letter recalling him back to office.

Lukumu also dismissed allegations that he has been taking part in issuing fake letters in the kingdom baring the seal and the signature of the king noting that people who have been behind the act are well known.
