Police in Bushenyi are holding 13 people for allegedly involving in the recent panga and gun attacks that had engulfed the region.
According Eddy Sserunjoji the greater Bushenyi region police commander, a total of 13 suspects have so far been rounded off in relation with the recent gun and panga attacks and armed robbery in Bushenyi.
Sserunjoji said that 2 of the arrested are connected to panga attacks while 6 are connected with panga and gun attacks and are charged with aggravated robbery.
He added that 5 have been transferred away from Bushenyi for further investigations.
Sserunjoji also disclosed that over 100 more suspects connected to panga and gun attacks are likely to be arrested noting that investigations are still underway.
Sserunjoji while in an exclusive interview with mknewslink.com managing director, assured the public that police is doing great work to ensure that the situation calms down.
He also urged the police officers and other security personnel to put in more efforts while performing their duties.
Gun and panga attacks have been rampant in the region with several cases including the murder in Kyamuhunga, gun shoot in Ruharo, armed robbery at Tides bar in Bushenyi town among others.

Police in Kisoro has in detention a Uganda people’s defense forces soldier over alleged murdered a poacher in Mgahinga National park.
The suspect is Lance Carpal Andrew Nuwagaba number 191172 attached to 35th battalion of Nyakabande Kisoro district and attached to Uganda Wildlife Authority Mgahinga National park.
It’s alleged that on the 23th April 2018 while on duty with other Uganda Wildlife Authority personnel they came across Jonas Habingoma poaching and shot him dead.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate said that he went in hiding until yesterday 9th May 2018 when was handed in by the battalion commander with the exhibited gun Sub Machine Gun rifle number UG UPDF 564608917.
Maate said that inquiry is underway and he will be produced in court to answer charges accordingly.

Police in Ibanda are holding one suspect for allegedly murdering his wife.
According to Rodgers Cheben the Ibanda district police commander confirmed that Henry mugisha 64, a resident of Rwengwe cell, In Kikyenkye Sub County, Ibanda district, attacked his wife Rose Mary Kasande 53 with panga and cut her hands before chopping off her head leaving her body in a pool of blood.
After the incident, Mugisha handed himself to Police from where he is being held in cells.
Chebet attributed the murder to misunderstandings between the couple that had lasted to over 20 years.
He also disclosed that there is a drastic increase in domestic cases in Ibanda district thus appealing to the public to always report such cases to police.
The body of the deceased Kasande was taken to Ruhoko health centre 1V for a postmortem.

In Bushenyi.
Two people perished in an accident along Mbarara –Ishaka road when the vehicle they were travelling in burnt to ashes.
Mubasshir Ahmed 28 a Pakistan National of Medvine pharmacy in Mbarara and his worker Gerald, perished when a Toyota Premio car registration No. UAX 808 L they were travelling caught fire and burnt to ashes.
According to the Greater Bushenyi Region police spokes person, SP Martial Tumusiime, the accident happened at around 8:00 pm at Kyenkokora near Itendero town in Sheema District when the driver of a premio wanted to dodge a boda boda rider thus swaying off the road, crushed and caught fire.
Martial attributed to the cause of accident to over speeding by the car driver and reckless riding by the boda boda.

He cautioned the road users to always be cautious with traffic rules especially during night.
He also noted that traffic operations on drivers and boda boda riders who offend traffic rules are still ongoing.

Godfrey Ogwang Okello, the chief administrative officer,Pakwach district was arrested over failure to pay court costs amounting toUGx 43 million.
Ogwang was arrested on Wednesday 2nd May 2018 in Masindi town by police and the court bailiffs on orders of the Masindi high court deputy registrar, Simon Kintu Zirintusa, who issued the warrant of arrest on the 25th of April 2018.

Ssansa Nalubega, dragged Godfrey Ogwang the former CAO Kiryandongo district and Kiryandongo district local government to Masindi high court in 2012 accusing them of wrongful interdiction.
Nalubega told mknewslink.com that she was interdicted from the position of town clerk of Bweyale town council when Ogwang was working as the chief administrative officer Kiryandongo district.

Nalubega said that in 2012 court ruled in her favor and ordered Ogwang to pay her Ug shs 43M but she has never been paid.

One person was shot dead, as thugs attacked a shop at Kanyambare cell commonly known as ‘aha boarder’, Nshumi parish kyamuhunga sub county.

According to the greater Bushenyi region police spokes person, SP Martial Tumusiime, Sselwanga Mujuni Arthur 38 was shot in throat and died on spot as he tried to attend to an alarm made by Mrs. Fuligensia.

Martial told mknewslink.com that two suspected robbers armed with a gun and a machete, attacked a shop of one Mrs. Fuligensia at around 8:30pm, and robbed her of Ug shs 30,000. Fuligensia made an alarm which attracted Sselwanga to come for her rescue only for him to be shot dead.

Martial noted that, the police have transport problems which have greatly affected their operations due to delay.

He told mknewslink.com that Bushenyi police don’t have a vehicle since theirs involved in an accident and no replacement despite notifying the authorities. He added that they don’t even have fuel.

He however appealed to the public to always have contacts of their nearby police stations and notify them instead of calling the regional police.He thus assured the public to remain calm as police is doing its work.

Armed robbery has become rampant in the area which has left the residents in a state of fear.

Mwesigwa Laurence a senior agriculture officer in charge of farm planning at Mubuku irrigation scheme has petitioned parliamentary committee on natural resources over the increased cases of land grabbing within the scheme.

Mwesigwa says over 156 hectares have so far been grabbed and titled with a help from Kasese district land board.

Mwesigwa told the MPs that his attempt to block the land grabbing at the government funded irrigation project has instead earned him death threats.

Alex Byarugaba the chairperson of the parliamentary committee, who promised to encourage government to pump more money in the water sector, advised the scheme management to involve the land grabbers in the scheme saying such a decision will not only save the remaining land but also save them from litigation.

The same advice was echoed by district deputy RDC Muhindo Amwadebu who requested the Agriculture ministry to relocate people running small pieces of land in the scheme so as to create an opportunity for big investors to put the scheme into good use.

The MPs were in the region to monitor the ministry of water and environment projects like river Mpanga, Mubuku and Rwizi water catchment

Ambassador Moses Sebunya asked students to value and respects cultures of their fellows in order to foster social development.
Moses said while presiding over cultural gala competitions at the International national University of East Africa found in Kabalagala a Kampala suburb.
He also emphasized that it’s paramount for each group of people to cherish their cultures adding that it helps in restoring and maintaining good morals.
The competitions were won by the Ugandan students followed Burundi and Rwanda respectively.
The competition included showcasing cultural wears and dances among others.
According to Ms Barlow Alice the minister of gender and culture in the university, other countries that participated include; Nigeria, South Sudan, Tanzania, DRC, India among others.
The function was also attended by other neighboring universities and the neighboring community.
The institution is owned by Ali Hassan a tycoon in kampala and East Africa at large.

The minister of general duties in the office of prime minister and the woman mp for Bushenyi district, Canon Mary Karooro Okurut, has challenged women to always respect their husbands as it was done by their predecessors. “Am a feminist but women must respect their husbands for families to be peaceful and successful,” she said.
Karooro also said that men should have bigger voices in their families although women can also give developmental ideas.
She said this at Tuzza Hotel during a wedding reception of Mr. Amanyisa Zadock a renowned former journalist of daily monitor and also the new communications and information officer at West Ankole Diocese, who wedded Ruth Amanyisa at all saints greater Bushenyi Church.
Karooro gave the couple a cow as a gift.
Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni, the bishop of west Ankole diocese warned newly wedded couples to stop the habit of bewitching their husbands in a bid to make them accept whatever they say.
He added that marriage is such a precious thing that is un comparable thereby urging whoever has got it should handle it with care.
The function was as well attended by the Minister of innovation science and technology, Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, Buhweju MP, Mwijukye Francis, former Bushenyi LCV aspirant Paul Kahiigi, director St. Agnes Girls SS and diocesan secretary Rev. Canon Athur Twiine among other dignitaries.

Bunyoro Kitara kingdom is hunting for over 500 million to organize empango celebration slated for 11th June 2018.
Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom celebrates the coronation of King Solomon gafabusa Iguru, on the11th June every year at Karuzika palace in Hoima district.
Speaking to journalists shortly after meeting the Masindi district chairperson, Andrew Byakutaga the Kingdom premier said that he has launched a campaign to hunt for resources by visiting all the district chairpersons of the seven districts of Bunyoro. He said every district chairperson is supposed to head the organizing committee of his district.
He adds that they are also going to use clans to mobilize for funds adding that each clan is supposed to contribute at least UGx 10 million.
Byakutaga said that there will be proper accountability for the money collected, hence calling upon the people from bunyoro to contribute willingly.
He also revealed that there will be pre empango activities citing football between the clans, health camp, empango marathon, exhibition among others. He added that money from empango marathon will be used to buy a scanner for Bulisa district hospital.
Cosmas Byaruhanga, the chairperson LCV Masindi district, said as a district they have been contributing UGx 2 million but this time they are going to increase their contribution adding that for him as a person he will contribute UGx 500,000 towards empango celebrations.
He also called upon people from Bunyoro to come out and contribute towards the celebrations.
