The Parish Priest of Rutenga Catholic Parish in Kinkizi East in Kanungu District Rev Fr Andrew Tumukurate is nursing serious wounds after he was kidnapped by unknown people who tortured him and later dumped him at Kanungu Police Station.

It’s reported that Fr Andrew Tumukurate was kidnapped from Rutenga Catholic Church today Sept 2nd 2020, by men traveling in vehicle registration number UBD 340R.

Fr Tumukurate said that he was attending to members of Rutenga Catholic Church Sacco before the kidnappers took him to Kanungu Resort Hotel which belongs to Minister of State for Housing Dr Chris Baryomunsi, where he was tortured as they asked him why he did not support the Minister vying for Kinkizi East Parliamentary Seat and why he was distributing money.

The kidnappers later dumped Fr. Tumukurate at Kanungu Police Station where they abandoned him and was arrested by Police.

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate said that Rev Fr Andrew Tumukurate was arrested by unknown group people who brought him to the Police Station with his laptop , bag of money containing Ugx 1,629,300 (One million and six hundred twenty nine and three hundred shillings) and NRM letters for agents of one Zepher Mugisha who is contesting for the LC V Chairman seat.

“He was arrested by a group of people yet to be identified by names, however reliable source we have established that they have come from Dr Hon Chris Baryomunsi camp,” Maate said in a statement last evening.

However, Dr Baryomunsi has issued a statement distancing himself from the kidnap and arrest of Rev Fr Andrew Tumukurate.

“I’m saddened by the news of the kidnap of Rev Fr Andrew Tumukurate of Rutenga Parish but also dismayed by the allegations of any of my involvement” Dr Baryomunsi posted this massage on social media distancing himself from the arrest of the Priest.

The arrest of Fr. Andrew Tumukurate comes a day before the NRM primary elections where the incumbent Dr Chris Baryomunsi is facing stiff competition from Deus Nkwasibwe also known as Omusisa for Kinkizi East Parliamentary Seat.

In Mbarara

Mbarara city North MP aspirant Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukari has today launched a newspaper that will be circulating within Mbarara city and nationwide.

While launching the newspapers at Mbarara Innovation centre, Robert Rukari revealed that the newspaper which is dubbed Etaara will cost only 1500shs.

 Rukari promised to start up a radio station very soon in Mbarara city so that both can majorly focus on informing people on what happens in parliament and bring authentic news nationally and worldwide.

Rukaari noted that they both will equip the youth with skills to start up businesses and gain economical profits 

Rukaari noted that this is not his first publication as he published procurement news in 2005 thus refuted claims that he wants to use this newspaper to campaign for himself.

He advised his supporters to safe guard their National identity cards since some politicians are busy soliciting ID’s from voters in exchange of ugx10000 to vote for them come Friday 4th September,2020.

Dr. Rukari Robert the former ambassador of Uganda to Morocco will be tussling it out with with other NRM Candidates who include the interim Michael Tusiime, Senex Agaba among others

The NRM chairman for Ishaka division in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality Mr. Yasin Kyota was arrested a short while ago by a combined force of Bushenyi and Mitooma Police.

According to a credible source who witnessed the arrest at Crane Resort Hotel in Ishaka, Mr. Yasin Kyoota was bundled on Police pick up by police officers in uniform and in plain clothes.

A police source at Mitooma police station confirmed to www.mknewslink.com  managing editor that Kyota was already at their station.

Mr. Yasin Kyota is accused of cutting supporters of Minister Mary Karooro on Tuesday last week an allegation he denies.

He was accused together with the Bushenyi Ishaka municipal NRM Chairman Muhammed Lukwago. Lukwaga was arrested last week and bailed by chief magistrate’s court in Bushenyi.

Muhammed Lukwago supports Minister Karooro’s camp while his rival Kyota is supporter of Annet Katusime Mugisha.

Four people, supporters of both Annet Mugisha and Minister Karooro were last week on Tuesday 25^th August 2020 cut from different places in Ishaka town and are currently nursing wounds at different health facilities.

The Bishop of West Ankole diocese Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni has called upon Christians and other people to have time to thank God for the achievements they have made.

He said this yesterday during a Graduation thanksgiving for the family of Prof. Karooro after their children Rosemary Karooro and Dr. Angellah Karooro successfully graduated from America and South Africa respectively.

Rosemary Karooro graduated from Harvard University with a master’s degree in Law whereas Dr. Angellah Karooro got PHD from one of the universities in South Africa.

The Bishop thanked the family of Prof. Karooro for remembering to thank God for achievements received in their family.

In her speech the minister of general duties in the office of the Prime Minister Mary Karooro hailed his brother Prof. Karooro for being a special person as well as a responsible heir for the family of late Elinest Karooro.

Prof. Karooro and his wife Dorah Karooro thanked God who made their children reach home despite the COVID 19 pandemic that hit the world.

Dr. Angellah and Rosemary Karooro thanked their parents for paying for them school fees and as well thanked God who has made them succeed in their education.

Adam Kyakuwa the Igara west parliamentary candidate last evening attacked Tycoon Hassan Bassajabalaba the NRM district chairman before the visitor Dr. Tanga Odoi claiming that he uses goons to cut supporters of candidates he does not support.  

Adam Kyakuwa cited out Muhammed Lukwago the NRM chairman Bushenyi Ishaka municipality who was in attendance as one of the goons who have been cutting the people of Bushenyi.

Lukwago was yesterday bailed by Bushenyi chief magistrate’s court on charges of cutting four people in Ishaka.

Kyakuwa asked Mzee Bashaasha to hand over a letter to Dr. Tanga Odoi detailing how Tycoon Hassan has been dis organizing elections in Bushenyi so that he takes it to the president.

In reply, tycoon Bassajabalaba denied moving with goons and revealed that what Kyakuwa was raising was wrong information aiming at diverting the meeting.

Dr. Tanga ordered all the groups to respect the law adding that if they can’t, he will cancel their candidature.

He added that he will be in Western Uganda on the voting day which is 4^th August 2020 therefore those who are planning to go against the law should be careful.

In Bushenyi

Four people in Bushenyi District are nursing injuries they sustained in suspected election fights.

The victims have been identified by police as; Hamidu Mugisha, Gordius Kakubiro, Bahati Amira and Asharaf Nimwesiga.

SP Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, says the scuffle between the four broke out in ward 4 Ishaka Division Bushenyi Ishaka municipality on Tuesday evening.

It is alleged that three of the injured are supporters of Annet Katusiime Mugisha while the forth is a supporter of Minister Mary Karooro Okurut both contesting for Bushenyi district NRM woman parliamentary seat.

Martial explains that although no one has been arrested in connection to the attack police already have names of the suspects adding that he could not mention them not to jeopardize investigation.

Both minister Mary Karooro Okurut and Annet katusiime Mugisha were not readily available for a comment as they didn’t pick our repeated calls.

The NRM primaries for parliamentary candidates are scheduled for September 4th,2020 in all villages.

In Kabale

Police in Kabale are investigating circumstances under which a 57 year old man committed suicide by hanging for yet unknown reasons.

The deceased has been identified as John Turyahikayo of Kasirima village Kavu parish Maziba Sub county Kabale district.

It’s alleged that yesterday 24/08/2020 morning the deceased had breakfast with his two daughters who later went to garden.

The daughters narrated that they discovered their father hanging in a rope inside his bed room when they returned at around 11:00 hours to prepare lunch.

 The suicide case was registered at Maziba Police Station under file CRB 06/24/08/2020 and inquiries are at hand, according to Elly Mate the Kigezi region Police mouthpiece

Balya mall which houses Balya stint hardware and other businesses in Mbarara city was yesterday morning sealed off by court brokers in preparation to sell it off after the owner Apollo Balya delayed to pay a 9 billion shillings loan acquired from Orient bank.

In a statement from KT advocates titled “legal brief on Orient bank limited taking over management and possession of Balya mall in Mbarara city comprising plot 5 on Masaka road,33 and 35 Akiiki Nyabongo road, Mbarara district, Orient bank revealed that it extended to Balya stint hardware limited a credit facility of Ugx 9 billion 

The statement further reveals that the loan was acquired by a mortgage on properties loan on value ratio (LRV) 3614 Folio 2 Akiiki Nyabongo road Mbarara district, LRV Mbarara ,77 Folio 19, plot 10 Masaka road and LRV 2941 Folio 18 plot 35 Akiiki Nyabongo road

It also indicates that Balya has on several occasions been served with demand notices which he failed to respect.

“Balya mall /stint hardware located on Mahembe Gente Mbarara -Masaka road , adjacent to Akiiki  Nyabongo road defaulted on repayment of the loan and on 5th June 2019, the Orient bank served the debtor  with a demand notice but he failed to comply ,on 16th August,2019 the bank again served the debtor with a notice of default and on 16-18 Nov,2019 the bank served him with a notice of sale.”says the statement

“The property was subsequently advertised for sale on Friday ,March ,13th ,2020 but he also didn’t comply .The events of the default happened before covid 19 pandemic and there fore the measures and directives that were put in place by Bank of Uganda to mitigate the impact of the pandemic didn’t comply to the debtors ,” It stresses .

Efforts to get a comment from tycoon Balya were futile.

In Bushenyi

In the history of Bushenyi district Local Government, today the district held a council without a full speaker and a chairman after the two were admitted at Mbarara regional referral hospital.

The two tested positive for COVID 19 and are admitted at the hospital to receive treatment.

The council was chaired by the deputy speaker Annet Kenyena and deliberated on many issues concerning the district including passing of a supplementary budget of 80 Million meant to do COVID 19 activities in the district.

Jaffari Bassajabalaba and Justine Burisadi have spent two weeks and one week respectively at Mbarara region hospital and possibly they will be discharged soon.

Jaffari is re-contesting for the district chairmanship while the speaker is not contesting again.

Jaffari was represented by Peter Ndyahooza Mugume and he answered questions from the political wing.

In his closing remarks, the Chief Administrative Officer Malik Mahab told the meeting that he was surprised to find the names of the speaker and chairman on social media as victims of Covid 19 which is against the law.

The CAO assured councilors, technical staff and the public that the situation in Bushenyi is not worrying, it’s under control therefore they should not relax. He added that the president in his speech last evening warned Ugandans to follow Standard Operating Procedures in order to kick COVID 19 out of Uganda.

The Bushenyi -Ishaka parliamentary candidate Derrick Kabuura Baimukye was today morning temporarily arrested as he tried to make a procession in Bushenyi town by walking on foot.

According to Bushenyi district police commander Joe Komakech ,Kabura was taken to central police station and educated on scientific campaign.

The DPC told www.mknewslink.com in an exclusive interview that Kabura was withdrawn from the streets and taken to police to stop him from making a procession which is against the rules of scientific election.

Kabura is a new comer in the Bushenyi Ishaka parliamentary race and has gained popularity especially in the division of Ishaka which has the highest number of voters in the whole municipality.

Candidate Kabura is one of the competitors in the race whose support is increasing daily.

He is competing with other 6 candidate who include; Arnold Spencer Turwomwe, the incumbent Gordon Arinda Cowboy, Rutagi Musoke, Marvin Baryaruha, Chris Muganzi and Nasser Kankuriremu.
