In Bushenyi

Letshego Holdings Ltd has contributed UGX 5M to the Bushenyi District Task Force headed by the RDC Jolly Tibemanya at a small event at the district headquarters.

The relief was handed over to the task force on 14^th August 2020 by Letshego Uganda under its continued elaborate assistance to communities and locations that are bearing the brunt of the effects of the Corona virus.

“As the world continues to grapple with the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Letshego stands with communities to help limit the spread of the virus and ease the related economic hardships faced by the communities in which we live and work. Our support towards Bushenyi Covid-19 Task Force is one that we hope shall enable district teams across 9 sub counties, 5 town councils and a municipality,” Aijukwe Giles, CEO Letshego retorted.  

Letshego’s donation was received by the Bushenyi CAO Mahab Malik (also a member of the District Task Force) alongside other district staff.

He applauded Letshego’s swift response to their pleas as well as the handsome contribution towards their strides.

“We are eternally grateful to Letshego for their consideration and timely intervention at this trying time amidst the pandemic.  The UGX 5m will be allocated towards mobility and sensitization drives within the district so as to safeguard the lives and increase awareness of the virus spread,” Mahab emphasized.

In Rubirizi

Two brothers, husband and wife are contesting for parliamentary seats in Rubirizi for the forthcoming NRM primaries.

In Katerera county Rubirizi district two brothers; Hatwib Katooto the incumbent and his elder brother Muhammed Katooto are fighting for the same parliamentary seat.

In a related development, the incumbent Woman MP for Bunyaruguru Kesande Grace Bataringaya is contesting for the same seat while the husband Bataringaya is contesting for Bunyaruguru parliamentary seat.

According to sources, the Bataringayas are both contesting because of the disagreements at home related to sexual infidelity.

Hatwib and Muhammed were at first friends as brothers but started fighting here and there and eventually contested together in 2016.

In an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com managing editor at Tuzza last evening, Hatwib Katooto noted that they do not have serious differences and he does not have a bad heart for his brother.

Hatwib added that in case people of Katerera do not vote him, he wishes they could vote his brother.

Hatwib noted that he suspects that their differences emerged due to the fact that they are not from different mothers.

Police in Rwizi region have arrested the key suspect in the murder of IHK hospital nurse Viola Kayi

The suspect Shimanya Simon 40years a teacher by profession was alleged to had hacked to death his wife Viola Kayi a resident of Kitaazi ,Kasangati ,Wakiso district .

According to the Rwizi police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira yesterday 13th, August,2020, Shimanya Simon was arrested from Isingiro district where he has been hiding.

He was later transferred to Kampala for prosecution in courts of law.

In Mbarara

Police in Mbarara are hunting for a truck driver who allegedly knocked a Chinese national on duty yesterday morning.

He later succumbed to injuries on Wednesday, August, 12, 2020 at Mbarara regional referral hospital.

Rwizi region police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira has said that at around 9am, Lee Limin aged 49 years an employee of Chinese International Construction Company (CICCO) was instructing a truck registration number UBD 895N that was being driven by a one Kamari Hassan and the truck hit him.

The incident happened along Kamugungunu road that is undergoing construction in Rwebikoona cell, Kamukuzi division Mbarara city

After realizing that he had knocked the Chinese national ,the driver took off and the body of the deceased was taken to mortuary at Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.

In Ibanda

Ibanda LC 5 chairperson, Mr. Melichidius Kazwengye has decided to stepdown and retire from politics during the forthcoming NRM primaries.

Mr. Kazwengye says that he will not participate in NRM primaries elections to be elected as flag bearer for 2021-2026 to enable him to be elected as LC 5 chairperson.

Mr. Kazwengye made the remarks yesterday while addressing the press in Ibanda district. He revealed that his personal doctors advised him not to participate in politics due to poor health conditions as result of kidney problems.

Kazwengye is the young brother to Hon. Eng. John Byabagambi who is the Minister for Karamoja Affairs and the MP for Ibanda south.

He is also the former Mbarara Secretary for Works. In 2005 when Ibanda upgraded to district status after being curved from Mbarara district, Mr. Kazwengye participated into Ibanda politics and became the first LC 5 chairperson and has led the district for 15 years.

He added that needs to rest till he gets better. He noted that this is not the end of politics. “This to inform the public that am still LC 5 chairperson till May 2021.”

“I thank all religious leaders in Ibanda district, Members of Parliament of Ibanda south, Ibanda north and Ibanda municipality plus district councilors for supporting me during the 15 years I have been leading Ibanda,” Kazwengye said.

In Sheema

Sheema district COVID 19 taskforce has summoned Parliamentary aspirant Dickson Kateshumbwa for allegedly violating guidelines issued by ministry of health and the Electoral commission to stem the spread of covid 19.

Kateshumbwa,a former commissioner of Uganda Revenue Authority is seeking endorsement from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to contest for the seat currently occupied by the Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye, the minister of science and technology.

But, the Chairperson of the Sheema District COVID19 taskforce Frank Kyerere has faulted Kateshumbwa for a procession held in his support around Sheema municipality disregarding all guidelines issued to ensure that the disease, which spreads though person to person is forestalled.

The greater Bushenyi Regional police Commander,Bosco Otim says police tried to block the procession by mounting roadblocks to stop Kateshumbwa’s supporters from proceeding to Koga, the border of Mbarara and Sheema. However, the police teams were overpowered by the multitudes of supporters.

The procession brought business and traffic to a standstill along the Mbarara-Sheema road, and around Kabwohe town.

Kyerere says that besides the absence of physical distancing, the majority of Kateshumbwa’s supporters had no masks, adding that the police have been advised to investigate them for participating in a negligent act which is likely to spread infectious disease and disobedience of lawful orders.

But Kateshumbwa says that he didn’t plan the procession, neither was he aware that in the process of welcoming him after the nomination, his supporters flouted some COVID 19 guidelines.

Dr. Polly Nkwasibwe Katate, the political assistant to Kateshumbwa accused the police of trying to block them though they were following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In Isingiro

Two people were yesterday evening killed on spot by a speeding police car at Mile 19 Kabingo, Isingiro district.

The deceased have identified as Alex Katutsi a Boda Boda rider resident of Kitura Kagarama parish, Kagarama subcounty and his passenger Moses Tukundane aged 50 years the director Global vocational institute Isingiro, Kaharo cell Kabingo central Isingiro town council.

According to Samson Kasasira, the deceased who were riding on motorcycle reg. UEM 355L were knocked dead at around 17:20hours by motor vehicle registration number UP5510 that was carrying out normal patrols in the district.

Kasasira attributed the accident to reckless riding by the Boda Boda man who made an abrupt U-turn in the middle of the road without indicating yet both the motor vehicle and the motorcycle were heading to the same direction of Kabingo town council on the Isingiro road 

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwekubo health centre IV for post mortem as inquires into the matter continue.

In Mbarara

The Chairman Biharwe division Steven Muganga has alleged that Mafias want to kill him for exposing their ill intentions and unlawful acts especially corruption in Mbarara city council.

Muganga while speaking to www.mknewslink.com said that Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi should jointly work with other authorities to eliminate these yet to be identified Mafias who have hindered development and accumulated wealth at the expense of tax payers.

“They conduct meetings day and night to kill me because I have exposed them and their acts, so if you hear that I have died …some of us are worried and security is aware, ” Muganga added.

Muganga was also at the end of July 2019 accused by local community members of fraudulently selling Nyabuhama parish land measuring over 4 hectares to individuals in connivance with former division town clerk Nelson Arinaitwe.

Mbarara leadership has been partly divided especially since February 22,2019 when the state house Anti Corruption Unit led by Col.Edith Nakalema intervened to investigate alleged corruption and five officials were arrested, later tried in courts of law.

The arrested included the then Mbarara District Chief Admistrative Officer (CAO) Curthbert Felix Esoku ,Godlive Ayebare and Emmanuel Himbisa both senior lands officers, Aggrey Atukwatse ,the assistant engineer and human resource officer Rosalia Karuhanga though Kampala high court later awarded each shs 10 million UGX shillings on May 1,2020 for being detained beyond 48 hours without charge.

In Kanungu

Police in Kanungu have arrested 16-year-old boy and are hunting for a colleague after the two were caught red handed deforming and defacing Hon Chris Baryomunsi’s posters.

The suspect has been identified as Ian Niwaha a resident of Kigando cell Rutondo parish Kambuga sub county Kanungu district.

Elly Mate the Kigezi region police mouthpiece told www.mknewslink.com that Niwaha together with one only identified as  Mujuni were allegedly found removing and maliciously defacing the posters within Kambuga township.

Matte advised the public to desist from acts of removing, covering, deforming and defacing any other person’s/ opponent’s poster directly or indirectly, or else they risk being arrested and charged accordingly.

The case was registered at Kanungu central police under SD number 20/05/08/2020 for reference.

In Kyotera

Letshego Holdings Ltd, under its subsidiary Letshego Uganda has donated a consignment worth UGX4m to Kyotera town as an added effort towards the district’s efforts in managing the impact of the Corona virus pandemic.

Aijukwe noted that in line with their tagline, which is ImprovingLives, Letshego has focused on environmental and community stewardship adding that they believe in development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of the future generations.

Kyotera MP Kyeyune Kasolo thanked the management and staff of Letshego Uganda for heeding the calls of the people of Kyotera and for their continued support to the youth.

Kasolo remarked that their donation would go a long way in providing much needed assistance to the staff and beneficiaries of the foundation.  

The Kasolo Foundation caters to over 100 youth (male/female) in the Kyotera area by arming them with skills in hair dressing, sewing, motorcycle repair and maintenance, metal work and fabrication and carpentry. Hon Kasolo’s foresight to opening of the Foundation was premised on the public outcry for increasing levels of youth employment in Kyotera. The foundation also ensures discipline through counselling and guidance classes, book keeping, customer care and marketing skills.
