Two suspected thieves have been lynched by mob at two separate places in Mbarara city.

The first mob action occurred on Wednesday night at Alliance, Kakoba , Mbarara City south division where unidentified middle aged man suspected to be a phone snatcher was put out of action by an angry mob.

Residents intimated to www.mknewslink.com that the suspect was lynched by a mob after he tried to snatch a phone from one of the residents at around 08:00Pm on Wednesdays night.

The second mob action occurred on Thursday morning at around 05:00Am along Buremba road where unidentified man believed to be in his 20’s was lynched by a Boda Boda mob after he tried to grab one of the motorcycles that was parked at What’s up Bar in Mbarara city.

ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesperson noted that mob action in the region has drastically increased.

He further said that as police they condemn mob actions and warned people to desist from acts of mob justice because it is likely to lead them behind bars.

The two bodies of the deceased were picked up by police homicide team and taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital for postmortem.

Police in Mbarara district have lodged a hunt for yet to be identified assailants who attacked a 27-year-old boda boda rider and took away with his motorcycle.

The vitim has been identified as Nicholas Mugisha 27 years a Boda Boda Rider operating in Rubindi-Ruhumba Town council and a resident of Bugarama Cell, Karweshanga ward in Rubindi-Ruhumba Town council.

According to Ivan Makuru, the chairperson Mbarara Boda Boda Riders Association, their colleague was on Tuesday night at around 08:30 PM approached by unknown man at his Boda Boda stage in Rubindi-Ruhumba Town council who asked him for a ride to unidentified destination.

He narrated that a few metres from Rubindi town, two unknown assailants together with the passenger attacked Mugisha cutting him severally on head before they made away with his motorcycle registration number UFQ 654P.

He said their colleague was later rescued by residents who saw him bleeding on the road side and rushed him to Sheema Clinic in Bwizibwera where he was referred to Mbarara regional referral hospital.

Mukuru revealed that this was the second motorcycle to be stolen from the area in a space of two weeks.

He added that as Boda Boda leadership they have resolved to have a meeting with authorities to forge out a way on how to curb down the increasing criminality against Boda Boda riders.

Hatwib Katoto the former Member of Parliament for Katerera Constituency has withdrawn an electoral case against his elder brother Kato Muhammad.

The withdrawal follows a consensus agreement between the two brothers who contested against each other in the January 2021 polls that saw Muhammad Kato emerge winner with 12,213 votes against Hatwib Katoto’s 9,302 votes.

In 2021, Katoto rushed to Mbarara High Court to challenge Kato’s victory, he however lost the case that was before Justice Moses Kawumi.

In his petition, Katoto had challenged his elder brother’s victory on grounds that the latter lacked requisite academic documents. He also alleged that there was multiple voting and ballot staffing, voter intimidation and bribery.

Katoto therefore wanted court to declare him as the winner or order for a fresh election.

However, on September 21,2021, Moses Kazibwe Kawumi dismissed the application, saying the petitioner had filed additional affidavits introducing new grounds.

He explained that the new affidavits filed on August 9th 2021 illegally introduced new matters like alleged donation of culverts by Kato, an electric pole at Kanywero church of Uganda, bribery at Katokoni and other forms of malpractices, which amounted to a departure from pleadings and were unacceptable in the high court.

Katoto after losing the the case in the high court,he opted for the court of appeal challenging the high court ruling through his lawyers of Lukwago and company advocates raising five grounds saying that the trial judge had erred in the hearing of his petition

He said that judge Moses Kawumi erred in law when he removed nine affidavits filed out of time which caused Justice miscarriage.

However on Monday morning while at Mbarara high Court, the two parties together with their legal teams held talks presided over by Eric Sabiiti the electoral Commission lawyer before Esther Nambayo the Mbarara high Court judge endorsed the consensus agreement.

Addressing journalists in Mbarara city Hatwib Katoto said that he decided to withdraw case for sake of the people of Katerera constituency. He however revealed that he will be contesting in 2026.

Muhammad Kato the Member of Parliament for Katerera appreciated Katoto’s act as it’s directed for the unity of Katerera people.

Eric Sabiiti the mediator for the two parties revealed that each party agreed to meet its own costs,

“Whoever engaged a lawyer should pay the lawyer, even myself I should be able to meet my own costs because the moment you bring costs you are surely shutting people from mediating, so we wouldn’t want to make it as a condition to frustrate the mediation,” Sabiiti explained.

Grade One Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kanungu led by His Worship Athanasuis Mukobi has charged and remanded 6 teachers over forgery and uttering false documents.
Court heard that that Grace Zawedde an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture, Alfred Mwesigye a teacher at Kambuga Senior Secondary school, Felix Okori an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of building and construction uttered false documents.
On the other hand, Samson Kiseka a teacher at Kihihi High school, Fred Ssenkayi an instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture and Happiness Byaruhanga school bursar of Nyamirama Seed school allegedly forged appointment letters and posting instructions
It is also alleged that the accused have been using the forged documents to teach in Government of Uganda aided institutions and in total, they have caused the Government a loss of Ugx 500 million in salaries and allowances paid to them.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and through their lawyers asked for bail but the magistrate remanded them to Kanungu Central Prison till November 17th 2022 when the case will come up for mention and ruling on their bail application.

In Bushenyi—
Two people have been arrested in connection to the murder of Valley university student Susan Kyatuhaire.
According to a credible source from the CID department at Bushenyi central police station, one was arrested from unfinished house near the scene while another one was tracked by a canine dog.
The lifeless body of Susan Kyatuhaire was on Wednesday 9th Nov. 2022 at around 2300hrs found naked on the veranda of her rented house in Kitookye cell, Central Division, Ishaka Bushenyi municipality few minutes after she had left town.

SP Martial Tumusime the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson later told reporter that they were informed and they responded immediately with a canine dog which helped them to track one suspect.

He added that they also removed her body and took it to KIU teaching Hospital for postmortem while inquiries are under way.

Sources close to the deceased intimated to this reporter that basing on her last WhatsApp status, Susan suspected she would die any time

“If I survive this week, it means I can handle marriage, Kuba ebintu sibyangu,” was Susan’s last status on WhatsApp.

Mbarara district leaders have tasked Government to expedite the process of allocating shs.2.5 billion for construction of Administration Block at Bwizibwera, about 35 kilometers from the city.

After the elevation of Mbarara municipality to city status, the district resolved to relocate to Bwizibwera-Rutooma Town council at the former Kashari county Headquarters.

Currently, the Mbarara district Administration is operating from Kamukuzi in Mbarara city North division.

Addressing journalists in Bwizibwera-Rutooma Town Council on Thursday, Mbarara district chairperson Didas Tabaro sai d that the delay to shift the Administration is caused by lack of money to facilitate the process.

He explained that the central government has not released its portion of the startup funds for each of the 10 Districts that were affected by the creation of cities.

According to Tabaro, the district has shifted some departments and offices including the office of the district chairperson to the new proposed site where they agreed to construct the new administration block. Among the shifted departments include; education because it remains the most sensitive after community based office.

Patrick Tumuhiimbise the mayor Bwizibwera-Rutooma Town Council said the delay to shift the offices has affected service delivery contrary to the intention of creating new administrative units.

Police in Kisoro are investigating circumstances under which a man was allegedly shot and killed by a security guard.

The man only identified as Amos by Elly Maate the Kigezi police spokesperson was allegedly shot by the security guard Leonard Atuhire resident of Matyazo village Nyundo parish Nyundo sub county Kisoro district.

Maate said that on the 07/11/2022 at around 0300hrs while on duty at UNHCR stores at the district headquarters Kisoro, the guard saw four men who accessed the fence and cut the tarpaulin which acts as a store to gain entry and steal which prompted him shoot one of them.

Maate revealed that Police were alerted by the SGA area supervisor Vian Ngabirano, scene visited and examined.

ASP Maate told journalists today that one cartridge, tarpaulin, torch and a panga were recovered at the scene.

The body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem while inquiries are underway.

The bishop of west ankole Diocese, rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni has backed Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa’s firm position on homosexuality and abortion, describing both practices as unchristian.

Bishop Twinomujuni, a vocal cleric and a critic of homosexuality also praised Tayebwa’s resolve to protect the Ugandan and Church values plus moral fiber intact amid mounting pressure from the western world.

“We can’t thank our dear Rt. Hon. Tayebwa enough!! It takes more than gallantry to be that bold and solid amidst such a [ACP-EU] meeting,” Bishop Twinomujuni wrote in What’sApp group ‘West Ankole Diocese’ containing church and other leaders who hail from the diocese.

“Those claps in the background are evidence, and so should give us confidence, that we have many more in the world whose moral fiber is still intact. In the struggle against perversion from Godliness, we are not alone! Human wrongs should never be upheld as rights! Nobody has a right to do wrong,” the cleric added.

Last week, Tayebwa made Uganda’s position against homosexuality very clear at the 61st session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States Parliamentary Assembly and 42nd Session of the ACP-European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU JPA) in Maputo, Mozambique

“I heard someone saying that LGBT, Homosexuality and Abortion are human rights, which must be respected universally, I just want to assure you, they can never be accepted in Uganda. I’m the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and I can assure you that the Parliament I lead will never pass laws that are against our values,” Tayebwa said receiving thunderous applause from delegates.

Tayebwa also maintained that Ugandan values can never be exchanged for Western funding, and insisted that, “it can never be accepted in Uganda”.

Tayebwa was responding to calls by the European Union under the Post Cotonou agreement to respect abortion, homosexuality and LGBTQ as human rights that must be respected universally.

“We have discovered that with the Post Cotonou agreement, there are hidden clauses concerning human rights. Clauses to do with sexuality, promotion of LGBT/homosexuality and clauses to do with abortion,” he said.

“We are a society that is not ready for homosexuality and we are a society that is not ready for abortion. As Africa, we believe that the institution of the family is at the core of whatever we are doing,” Tayebwa said adding that, ’the EU is demanding that we take a certain root, they should also know the character of our society’.

Religious leaders under the Inter Religious Council of Uganda, the umbrella association of religious bodies in the country have previously asked Parliament to block attempts that seek to promote homosexuality, abortion and LGBTQ practices

The former minister for general duties in the prime minister’s office and senior presidential advisor on media and public affairs Mary Karooro Okurut said God never willed her success in the race for Bushenyi district woman MP but life must continue.
Minister Karooro said this today 6th Oct.2022 at all saints greater in an exclusive interview with www.mknewslink.com MD after a service where she was a chief guest.
She noted that despite the fact that she never went through as a woman MP for Bushenyi, life must continue because it doesn’t stop at elections but goes further than that.
She asked all contestants who lost in the 2021 elections to cool their hearts and let life continue peacefully.
At All Saints’ church the Kimeza group led the service and contributed 600,000 towards the projects of the church while the chief guest Hon. Karooro contributed 1,000,000.

While preaching, the chairman of the Ekiimeza group Pison Mugizi asked Christians to unite and avoid unnecessary fights since a happy family is a happy church as well as a happy country.
Pison Mugizi who has been a synod member for 17 years in West Ankole diocese preached while Christians kept clapping as the word moved down to their hearts.
He is also head of laity and synod member for Kibare parish, Nyakabirizi division West Ankole diocese.
The archdeacon of All Saints greater Bushenyi Bethel Namara hailed Ekiimeza group for giving back to the church and leading a successfully church service with timely and special preacher who touched the Christians hearts.

Dr. Bright Innocent the Kaharo Health Centre III in charge was yesterday afternoon re-arrest on orders of the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma.

It’s alleged that on 26th October 2022, Dr. Bright cut an arm of an 11 year old P7 pupil a resident of Kashaki A village, Buhara Parish in Buhara subcounty of Kabale district while threatening her sexually.

Nyakahuma while speaking to our reporter said that Dr. Bright after committing this incident was immediately arrested but shortly released under unclear circumstances which the RDC said was not in order because the girl was in critical conditions thus an injustice to her.

RDC Nyakahuma yesterday accompanied by Luben Mutabazi the Kabale District Internal Security Officer further ordered for Dr. Bright’s re-arrest, after visiting the victim at Our Lady of Good Health Hospital alias Rushorooza Hospital.

Eveline Neema the enrolled nurse at Our Lady of Good Health Rushorooza Hospital who is attending to victim revealed that she was brought in much pain since the arm was deeply cut to almost falling down though according to x-ray examination there is a hope of recovery and improvement in the near future.

Sonia Komugisha the mother of victim also told our reporter that on Wednesday of 26th October 2022 in the evening her daughter told her that Dr Bright wanted to send her somewhere which the mother couldn’t stop her since they were family friends.

Komugisha added that she was surprised in a short time to see the daughter coming back crying and bleeding saying its Bright who had cut her arm.

She added that she reported the case at Kabale Central Police Station and Bright was arrested but disappointingly Bright was seen at his home the following day.
