ITOJO REFERRAL HOSPITAL OFFICIALS ARRESTED OVER ABUSE OF OFFICE, NEGLIGENCE

Police in Ntungamo have arrested two officials of Itojo referral hospital in Ntungamo district over alleged abuse of office, criminal neglect of duty and causing financial loss to the government.
Ntungamo District Police Commander (DPC) SP Patience Baganzi (SP) identified the suspects as David Ajuna the Itojo hospital administrator and Dr. Beda Senkware the hospital medical officer special grade.
Ajuna was charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss to government as well as negligence of duty because as a hospital administrator he failed to control the hospital properties.
It is alleged that one of the hospital motor vehicles Reg. No.UG 2071M. was taken away by one district Councilor Denis Muhumuza Savimbi (representing Itojo Sub county) and started using it without the authority from administrator and never reported him to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or any of his bosses at district that the health facility.
The two officials were arrested from their offices during the operation by state house health monitoring unit (HMU) headed by Dr. Warren Namaara and his deputy Dr. Julian Nabatanzi and the team leader Dr. Brian Arinaitwe.
The team pitched camp in Ntungamo district to monitor all government activities especially the health centres following the public’s outcry that the services were not moving on smoothly due to some corruption allegations.
Recently, the state house HMU arrested the district CAO of Ntungamo to help police in investigations of how the almost 10 ghost health centre 1Vs were created in his district.
The CAO Nassar Mukiibi was later released on police bond after sleeping one night in the police custody alongside his other three staff.
Collins Karugaba a CID-police officer attached to the HMU to State house and his other police officers but armed with pistols arrested Ajuna and Dr. Senkware from their work station at Itojo to help the police in its investigations.
DPC Baganzi said, Dr. Senkware was arrested after he failed to explain clearly on how a pregnant mother Katusiime Annet died of PPH cascade that was complicated by DIC disseminated intravascular coagulopathy while delivering.
Dr. Warren Namara said some medical health workers are not delivering service effectively when actually they are paid well, and that’s why some officials had to be arrested!
The state house HMU team was also helped by area RDC Ntungamo one Cadre-Muchunguzi Geoffrey, District Internal Security Officer- Esau Nsiimire, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Nassar Mukiibi, Chairman LC5 Sam Muchunguzi-Rwakigooba, Ag. District Health Officer Beatrice Chemisto, among others.
In a related development, the HMU team also discovered that there were some drugs which were mixed up with those which are expired and the team also suspected that the responsible people at the government stores could have done it intentionally so that they can steal those drugs which are not expired but mixed with the expired ones, after sorting them later.
