In Ntungamo—

Police in Ntungamo have arrested two officials of Itojo referral hospital in Ntungamo district over alleged abuse of office, criminal neglect of duty and causing financial loss to the government.

Ntungamo District Police Commander (DPC) SP Patience Baganzi (SP) identified the suspects as David Ajuna the Itojo hospital administrator and Dr. Beda Senkware the hospital medical officer special grade.

Ajuna was charged with abuse of office and causing financial loss to government as well as negligence of duty because as a hospital administrator he failed to control the hospital properties.
It is alleged that one of the hospital motor vehicles Reg. No.UG 2071M. was taken away by one district Councilor Denis Muhumuza Savimbi (representing Itojo Sub county) and started using it without the authority from administrator and never reported him to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or any of his bosses at district that the health facility.

The two officials were arrested from their offices during the operation by state house health monitoring unit (HMU) headed by Dr. Warren Namaara and his deputy Dr. Julian Nabatanzi and the team leader Dr. Brian Arinaitwe.

The team pitched camp in Ntungamo district to monitor all government activities especially the health centres following the public’s outcry that the services were not moving on smoothly due to some corruption allegations.

Recently, the state house HMU arrested the district CAO of Ntungamo to help police in investigations of how the almost 10 ghost health centre 1Vs were created in his district.
The CAO Nassar Mukiibi was later released on police bond after sleeping one night in the police custody alongside his other three staff.

Collins Karugaba a CID-police officer attached to the HMU to State house and his other police officers but armed with pistols arrested Ajuna and Dr. Senkware from their work station at Itojo to help the police in its investigations.

DPC Baganzi said, Dr. Senkware was arrested after he failed to explain clearly on how a pregnant mother Katusiime Annet died of PPH cascade that was complicated by DIC disseminated intravascular coagulopathy while delivering.

Dr. Warren Namara said some medical health workers are not delivering service effectively when actually they are paid well, and that’s why some officials had to be arrested!

The state house HMU team was also helped by area RDC Ntungamo one Cadre-Muchunguzi Geoffrey, District Internal Security Officer- Esau Nsiimire, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Nassar Mukiibi, Chairman LC5 Sam Muchunguzi-Rwakigooba, Ag. District Health Officer Beatrice Chemisto, among others.

In a related development, the HMU team also discovered that there were some drugs which were mixed up with those which are expired and the team also suspected that the responsible people at the government stores could have done it intentionally so that they can steal those drugs which are not expired but mixed with the expired ones, after sorting them later.

In Bushenyi—
National Water and Sewerage Corporation board headed by hon. Steven Basalilwa have today toured many projects in greater Bushenyi including Kitagata world bank funded project that is already complete.
They toured Warugo water project at the border of Kyamuhunga, Kakanju and Bitooma sub counties.
According to the area manager NWSC Eng. Sam Kiggundu, Warugo project will cost 11.8 Billion shillings.
He added that project will be completed in 18 months and assemblance of materials is already in progress.
The site Eng. Kenneth Nuwamanya told board and Bushenyi leaders that the contract was signed in August and the project will commence soonest.

Among the board members was; Can. Josephine Kasya the first female district chairman in Uganda for Kanungu who was very much concerned with when the project will be completed and she was ably answered by site manager Nuwamanya that it will take only 18 months.
Warugo water project will serve Bitooma town council, Kyamuhunga sub county and town council, Kakanju sub county then the balance will go to Ishaka town.
The capacity of project, according to Eng. Sam Kiggundu is 2.5 million litres per day.
Eng. Kiggundu noted that they need more 1.8 million litres to supply the entire Bushenyi district to 100%.

In Kanungu—

Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 36-year-old man who was hacked by assailants to death.

Kigezi Region police spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as Onesmus Akankwasa a resident of Omukyibungo cell Karubirizi Nyakyinoni Sub County in Kanungu District.

It’s alleged that the deceased had dug a trench in which he was staying until the night of 31 Oct 2022, when he was attacked by unknown people who cut his neck that led to his death.

Maate said that the scene was visited and processed, Canine dog was taken from Rukungiri, and it led to the arrested of Nuwamanya Asa 35 years and a resident of Kamuswa cell Karubirizi parish Nyakyinoni sub county in Kanungu district to help in investigations.

The body was retrieved and taken to Kihihi health Centre IV for postmortem as investigations commence

In Bushenyi—

Bushenyi RDC Robert Atuhairwe Rwase has strongly warned LCI and LCII chairpersons not to dare sell bicycles that have been offered to them by NRM government to fast track the activities in their localities.
“I have heard that some of you are looking for buyers of these bicycles, I will arrest you if you dare to sell them,” RDC Atuhairwe warned.
The RDC was today handing over bicycles to Bushenyi Ishaka municipality LCI and LCII chairpersons at the municipal council hall.
He asked the leaders to continue supporting President Museveni because he is still around and has helped them with transport to ease their work.

RDC Atuhairwe noted that these bicycles should help them to first land wrangles that are rampant in Bushenyi district.
The mayor Bushenyi Ishaka municipality hailed government for remembering chairpersons LCI and LCII and giving them moderate means of transport which will go a long way in helping them execute their duties.
The deputy town clerk Didas Muhanguzi told the recipients that each bicycle came with a tool box to assist them in repairing them.

The Member of Parliament for Igara East Michael Mawanda Maranga has revealed that normal malnutrition levels should be 0% to 29%.
This is according Bushenyi district nutrition focal person Ms. Nancy Nyamyeya.
Hon. Mawanda noted that it’s high time Bushenyi doubled its efforts on nutrition such that the vice is reduced to zero.
The above and many others were revealed on Friday at Kyeizooba play ground on world food day presided over Michael Mawanda Maranga.
He urged the community to engage in value addition of their products that they produce so that they can get more money like how Kituzi processes herbs to result into soft drinks.

He added that 40% of people in Bushenyi lack enough food to feed their families.
He said with the Parish Development model, people should work hard to eliminate 39% poor Ugandans.
He cautioned residents to be alert towards Ebola as it has so far reached Kampala and is likely to come to Bushenyi if serious measures are not taken.
The deputy RDC Bushenyi Rosemary Atuhaire warned residents of Bushenyi to avoid domestic violence
Senior Probation Officer Faith Betega said she is overwhelmed by gender based cases involving relatives such as parents who sleep with their own children as well as neighbors defiling their children.
She noted that domestic violence is at its peak in Bushenyi district with family members fighting which is dangerous for a growing country like Uganda.

In Kisoro—

A police man in Kisoro is currently under detention at Kisoro police station for shooting an Indian businessman.

Patel Kuntaj, an Indian sales man at Patel hardware business along Main Street was yesterday shot twice by the police officer after being promised a 20 million Ugandan shillings payoff.

The suspect is Elioda Gumizamo aged 21 attached to Nyakande refugee transit center under the FFU police unit. He has been serving as a police man for about four years.
Patel Kuntaj aged 24 years was rushed to St. Francis Mutolere hospital in critical condition.
Speaking to media, the Kisoro District Police Commander (DPC) Musisi Robert said that police responded quickly and with help of locals, the suspect was arrested with one gun that had 28 rounds of ammunition.
He said that he was surprised to find out that the suspect is a police officer who was trained to keep law and order.
He added that police are hunting for his accomplices that could have aided him in doing such a heinous act.

Kisoro RDC Hajji Shaffique Sekandi condemned the act of such trained police personnel. He commended residents for helping police to capture the suspect. He also said that the act is a big shame to a government worker trained to keep people and their property.
He revealed that charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery have been preferred against the suspect.

Eyewitnesses say that the suspect entered the shop hiding the gun in a sack and ran away after shooting at Patel. They added that they managed to follow the suspect up to Laiyne boda boda stage in the suburbs of Kisoro municipality where they captured him as he tried to board a boda boda.

Police in Mbarara city have arrested 10 Notorious Panga wielding men who have been terrorizing Mbarara city residents.

Addressing the Media on Wednesday,ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Police spokesperson identified the Suspects as Mukundane Darius ,Kakuru Dominic,Muwonge Nulu,Abdul Ukusho,Atwijukire Rups,Namanya Charles ,Lubega Farouk and Nuwagaba Derrick.

Kasasira said police are still hunting for a one kakiiga who was dealing with the Suspects to sell the stolen items at his shop along Ebenezer arcade in Mbarara city.

Kasasira said these were arrested from an intelligence led police operation that started in August up to date.

He added that among the captives include two boda boda riders who used to transport stolen valuables and one suspect who was found vending the stolen items.

Kasasira further said from the operation ,police were able to recover over 50 Televisions, Laptops , phones,Watches clothes bags among other items.

He said people whose items were stolen should reach out to Mbarara central police station to check whether their things were recovered.

He added that police were able to impound two motorcycles registration number UEM 938B and UEW 139D and a motor vehicle registration number UBM 141E Toyota Fielder which the culprits were using in transporting stolen things.

The police Relations Officer said the ten suspects are still being held at Mbarara central police station and they will soon be taken to court to answer charges of aggrievated robbery and thus asked people not to risk dealing in second hand things.

Mr.Meachel Muhereza a business man in Kabwohe town,Sheema Municipality whose valuables such as a television were stolen but recovered in Mbarara city applauded , Mbarara police efforts in recovering his items.

Adolf Ayoreka a journalist with Vision Group whose valuables such as a camera,phone,and a laptop were stolen in Nyakaizi cell , Kakoba ward expressed worries with the increasing cases of theft in Kakoba areas and thus asked police to enhance patrols.

In Mukono—–

Police in Mukono are investigating circumstances that led to a fire outbreak that killed 11 people at Salama School for the Blind in Luga Village, Ntanzi Parish, Mukono District today morning.

According to sources, six other people said to be in critical condition were rushed to Herona Hospital in Kisoga Town, Mukono District and later transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital.

The deceased, all visually impaired children, have been identified as Shamira Kalema, Patricia Mudondo, Gladys Namuga, Rebecca Josephine Namulondo, Josephine Joseline Namuwonge, Peace Nalumisa, Agnes Nantume, Pretty Prwoth, Veronica Nasali, Ket Nangutu and Patricia Nakaiyima.
The school proprietor, Mr Francis Kinubi, believes it was an arson attack.
“I think a heartless person set fire on the dormitory with an intension of blocking the princess’ visit because there is no electricity at the side where the fire started,” he said.
Mukono LCV chairperson, Rev Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, said the school has been involved in land conflicts as he received complaints in his office.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, they are yet to establish the cause of the fire outbreak.

Major General James Birungi the commander of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) said they are going to investigate the matter.

School fires have become a common occurrence countrywide, however, a lasting solution seems to have eluded the authorities and concerned stakeholders.

In Kisoro—

Residents of Bushunga B in Busengo parish, Kisoro district were last evening left in grief after a 17-year-old boy was buried alive by a landslide following a heavy down power.

The deceased has been identified as Julius Harilimana a son of Ngendahimana Silver, a resident of Bushunga A village Busengo Parish Nyarubuye sub county Kisoro district.

Bushunga A village LCI chairperson Gregory Sebikali confirmed the incident and said that the deceased was killed by a landslide during last evening heavy downpour that started at around 5pm.

He said that the deceased was grazing goats at the time of the incident.

According to Gregory, the residents who were passing by after the rainfall saw the deceased’s goats strayed in crops and called the owner in vain.

The residents felt suspicious after seeing a heavy debris nearby after the rain. He said that residents started gathering at the scene and dag up the debris. They discovered and retrieved the body of the deceased late last evening.

Sebikali Gregory said that the body of the deceased was handed over to the family members and the burial is scheduled for today.

He also said that the last evening downpour destroyed several gardens, houses and left roads from the area in sorry state.

Nyarubuye LCIII chairperson Ernest Ndibyariye Bucholi described the incident of losing such a person at young age as unfortunate.
He said that Bushunga B village is prone to landslides and floods due to its landscape.

He also revealed that most residents spent the whole day clearing mud and debris from their homes.

Ndibyariye Ernest Bucholi said that about 50 houses from his area were buried by mudslides following the last evening heavy downpour.
He advised his residents living on a high altitude to always remain vigilant and seek shelters elsewhere in safe places during heavy downpours.

In Rwampara—

Police in Rwampara are investigating circumstances under which the LC I chairperson of Lugazi Cell ,Kongoro Parish,Ndeija Sub county was killed on Wednesday morning by unidentified assailants travelling in a Toyota Wish (number plates yet to be established).

Fabiano Bagambagye , a resident of Lugazi Cell , Kongoro Parish Ndeija Sub county was last seen on Wednesday boarding a Toyota Wish at Nyeihanga Town council that had two unidentified Men on Board heading for Mbarara city, according to Mrs.Jane Asiimwe Muhindo the Resident District Commissioner Rwampara.

Ms.Muhindo added that the body of the deceased was later discovered a few kilometers from Nyeihanga Town council along the same road.s

She said the body at first could not be identified by police thus took it to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary where his Relatives came to identify him.

Ms.Muhindo revealed that they suspect the deceased to have been hacked to death by robbers who intended to rob him.

The presidents representative asserted that no arrests have so far been made in line to the gruesome murder of the deceased and now appealed to public to be vigilant as they board taxis.

Mr.Steven Kamara the DPC Rwampara District told this reporter that police are still hunting for the Suspects .

“It’s a sophisticated murder where by no one was found at the scene so we are still looking for the way of tracking people who killed the mzee”Kamara Explained.

Mr. Kamara however said they are gathering information which will lead them to the prime suspects.
