Following the rot taking place in Bushenyi district, the state house anti-corruption unit has swung into action and is now investigating Bushenyi district chairman Mr. Jafal Bassajjabalaba over the mess in all departments in the district.
It is believed that a whistle blower who is a very prominent person at the district leadership, informed state house about how bad the state of affairs is in the district.
Among issues being investigated is the corruption tendencies carried out by Mr. Bassajjabalaba, nepotism and others and the district.
According to the whistle blower, Mr. Bassajjabalaba has been involved in selling jobs to the highest bidder at the district service commission. That is to say, whoever comes for employment has to pass through him in order to be employed.
It is also said that his son also known as Jafal Bassajjabalaba is acting supervisor of works at the district after retirement of Eng. Katungi. The Engineer retired after realizing that he could not work with the chairman because of his work ethics.
The whistle blower also in his message authored to state house revealed that all business at the district rotated around Mr. Bassajjabalaba and that without him, nothing takes place.
Mr. Bassajjabalaba is not alone in the mess. Just last week, the civil society through WASCFO last week investigating Bushenyi District Engineer Barnabas Mbonimpa Kiiza over allegations of misappropriating government funds meant for various government projects.
Mbonimpa is being accused of misappropriating UGX 339 million intended for constructing a playground at Kabushaho seed school and failing to account for UGX 1.5 billion allocated for road construction in the district.
This followed his arrest earlier this week by members of the Western Ankole Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) who handed him to Greater Bushenyi where he was later released on police bond.
Both Mr. Bassajjabalaba and Mr. Mbonimpa are being accused of messing up the construction of Kanyamurera Seed School in greater Kyamuhunga subcounty in Igara West which was to start on February 3, 2025 for the first term. Up to now, nothing has taken place at the school.
It is important to note that despite all this, the total sum for the contract was already paid off with the knowledge of Mr. Bassajjabalaba.
