Mbarara Archdiocese paid a tribute to former Mbarara Town Clerk not only but also a faithful Catholic Mzee David Bashakara.
Bashakara died on Monday 17th June 2019 due to diabetes and pressure.
He is the longest serving town clerk for Mbarara municipality after serving 18 years, he has been Mushanga Parish council chairman for 12 years and famous for fighting for his Catholic religion.
Rev Fr Vincent Mucunguzi Masteady parish priest Mushanga parish who led the requiem mass at Mushanga Catholic Church said that the Catholic community has been punched by a big blow losing such person.
“From Monday when Bashakara died, Mushanga has been so quite to an extent that birds which usually make a lot of noise were also shocked for the bad news, I share with him one character, Bashakara who is lying in front of us here has been a trustworthy man, if he knew the truth, no matter whom you are or which fearful position you hold on this planet earth, he couldn’t be bribed, you either agree with him or disagree to agree with him, he was only hated by those who love lies” he lamented.
Rev. Vicent also requested all Bashakara’s siblings to adopt their father’s characters.
Leading the requiem mass at Nyamitanga cathedral, Rev Fr. Charles Mutabaruka said that Sheema district should kneel down to pray hard such that God can quickly replace another mover adding that Bashakara has been hated by few who never wanted truth to be revealed.
Nalongo Rose Bashakara a wife to the deceased said that his husband has been fighting for politics of the Catholic Church.
“My husband has died fighting for politics of his Catholic religion and he has died saying it, he was removed from the service commission because of being bold and open fighting for the equality of his religion, some thought that he was disrupting them. He couldn’t sit seeing that the Catholic Church won’t share on the district cake, although he was removed from Sheema service commission, he remained online of serving his religion tirelessly,” Rose said.
Jackson Mutsinguzi Councilor LCV for people with disabilities warned Sheema district Chairman David Kabigumira to repent his deeds to late Bashakara.
“Kabigumira shouldn’t even step at the burial of Bashakara, he jealously removed Bashakara from district service commission, the council re-passed Bashakara on service commission committee representing people with disabilities but Kabigumira refused still, when he was asked the reasons, he told us that they had personal issues but up to now the service commission committee isn’t full because as the district council we couldn’t choose another one, I ask God to reward Kabigumira according to his deeds, Bashakara has died honorably but those who tortured him ,have remained on earth to suffer,” he Jackson Mutsinguzi.
Late David Bashakara has not been in good terms with Sheema district boss Canon David Kabigumira who is a pure Anglican.
