In Bushenyi—-
Bushenyi district chairman Jaffari Bassajabala is no longer a sole candidate for the district chairmanship because new challengers including a former minister of Makaru, Bangirana Rupiha have shown interest to contest.
Bangirana Rupiha was a secretary of finance for Yowasi Makaru in the 1990s.
Rupiha has been the academic registrar for Bishop Stuart University since its inception but he retired recently to join politics.
He hails from Rwenyena Kyeizooba subcounty Bushenyi district.
Another aspirant on the seat is Rev. Lauben Mugarura who was a district councilor for Kyabugimbi subcounty in the last term.
Chairman Jaffari who was on NRM ticket defeated Paul Kahigi of FDC in a controversial election where observers accused him of stealing Kahigi’s votes in 2016.
Political observers say that the coming of Rupiha Bangirana into this contest has changed the political landscape since Jaffari has gotten a strong challenger.
