In Tokyo—

Uganda’s long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei has won an Olympics gold medal in the 5000m.

He clocked 12:58.15 to fend off resistance from Mohamed Katir of Canada (12:58.61) and Paul Chelimo (USA) who came third with a time of 12:59.05

Jacob Kiplimo came fifth to miss the medal bracket while Oscar Chelimo came last.
