CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES NEED TO BE EMPOWERED, SUPPORTED

There is a need to empower and support children with disabilities with in most of the Ugandan societies.
They are given a last priority in terms of education and all other necessities talk more of infringement on their rights.
Organized Useful Rehabilitation Services (OURS) Mbarara city in partnership with Katungu Mission Hospital Bushenyi wants Village Health Team (VHTs) to educate, support and train children with disabilities plus their families on how to improve their lives and those of their children respective.
Dr. Damson Akankwatsa, a Physiotherapist during a VHTs’ rehabilitation workshop called upon the VHTs to educate people in their societies to show care, love and support to the disabled so as to create a conducive environment for them.
Dr. Damson noted that these children include those with floppiness, mental retardation, muscle stiffness, enlarged head among other many disorders.
Rev. Ezra Turinawe, a program administrator at OURS, invited the participants to always create awareness for public services, and government programs to families with disabled children so as to aid them benefit from charitable services from different groups.
Speaking to www.mknewslink.com reporter, Reverend Turinawe said he expected the team to always follow up children with incapacities in their communities, fight for their rights and freedom plus giving information to families with disabled children.
This training organized by OURS and Katungu Mission hospital at Bushenyi Municipal hall aimed at improving rehabilitation services on disabled children under the age of eighteen (18).
