A one-year old baby boy in Hoima district is nursing injuries after his private parts and the right thigh were ripped off by a chimpanzee this week.
Friday Kahwa, a resident of Bulemwa Village, Bujumbura division in Hoima municipality whose baby is admitted at the Accident and Emergency Unit of Hoima regional referral hospital says that her baby was attacked by a chimpanzee on Thursday this week when she had laid it under a tree shade while digging.
Kahwa says she realized that her baby was not where she had placed him when she heard him crying.
A chimpanzee had picked up the baby and was trying to escape with it.
A section of residents said that they are constantly attacked by these primates which not only endanger their lives but also destroy their crops.
Nebert Kasozi, the manager Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust said that most residents have encroached on wildlife territory which is exposing chimps to human life.
He however added that they are doing extensive awareness within the community.
This is the fifth child to be attacked by the chimpanzee in Hoima in less than two years.
