Christians of the church which was demolished in Kiruhura have accused the government of neglecting them and teamed up to rebuild their church themselves.
The Christians tasks the government to value and consider Pentecostal Christians in different aspects and projects because they are also a block on Uganda like other mainstream religions.
King of Kings church in Sanga Nyabushozi Kiruhura district was allegedly demolished by unknown goons on Monday, September 31, 2020.
The land where the church sits had previously been given out to money lenders as collateral security by a pastor who is now at large and the church has so far paid shs4 million on the 9 million debt but the money lender, Yasin Sango is suspected to be behind this demolition with intentions of taking this plot of land in Sanga town.
He had agreed with the church to be paid shs 1 million monthly and later to shs500.000 until the church completes the debt but due to COVID-19 outbreak, the payment flow was hindered.
Bishop Silas Tayebwa, the senior pastor of the mother church King of Kings Mbarara revealed that when Yasin returned from Luzira prison under unclear circumstances despite facing murder charges, he demanded full pay prompting church authorities to notify court because they are waiting for the lockdown on places of worship to be opened since the payment is contributed by Christians.
Bishop Silas said when they received news of the church being down they thought it was wind, only to find Yasin at the scene warning them not to access the land.
‘We have reported to the police/government and we need justice, Kiruhura leaders and others should come to our rescue,’ the man of God added. Investigations are underway under SD 11/1/Sep 2020.
