The Rt. Rev. Gaddi Akanjuna, Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, has urged church leaders across the diocese to explore additional income-generating projects to support their mission work.
Bishop Akanjuna made this call On saturday during a special prayer service for a newly acquired 29-passenger Coaster bus, registration number UBQ 189Y, purchased by St. Luke Butobere Church of Uganda parish in the Archdeaconry of All-Saints Church Kabale.
The Coaster bus, valued at 170 million shillings, was blessed by Bishop Akanjuna at the Bishop’s Home in Rugarama Hill, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
Bishop Akanjuna stated that the church needs to be innovative and resourceful in finding ways to sustain its mission.
He said that we should not only rely on the generosity of our faithful, but also explore other avenues to generate income that will allow us to reach more people with the message of hope and love.
The Bishop emphasized that these income-generating projects should be ethical and aligned with the church’s values. He encouraged church leaders to consider ventures such as agricultural projects, small businesses, and other sources of income, rather than depending solely on church donations.
He thanked the Christians of St. Luke Butobere Church of Uganda parish for working together to purchase the new Coaster bus and urged the church members to protect it so that it can serve the community for many years to come.
Rev. Judith Atwontyirwe, Parish Priest of St. Luke Butobera Church of Uganda, expressed her gratitude to the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, church members, and other supporters who contributed to the purchase of the new Coaster bus. She noted that the church initiated the program to purchase the bus last year in July.
