KABALE POLICE OFFICER SHOT DEAD BY CIVILIAN

Police in Kabale district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a female police officer who was today morning shot by her boyfriend.

The Kigezi Region police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate identified the deceased as Komuhangi Caroline 23 NO:69786 PC attached to Kabale police station, Field Force Unit (FFU) department resident of the barracks behind Kabale old police station.

It’s alleged that, on 18th March 2023 at around 06:00 PM, the deceased signed for the Gun and went for night duty and the following day today early in the morning at around 06:30 AM, reported back from duty and as she was resting, her boyfriend one Arinaitwe Denis came.

It’s further alleged that the two picked a quarrel, and as she tried to escape outside running, her lover picked a gun, thereby shooting her one bullet from the back and other two on the shoulder, killing her instantly.

Police restrained him, was arrested and taken to Kabale hospital for treatment under guard, because he was also injured which injury either was through scuffle or wanted to commit suicide by shooting himself through the nose.

Maate said that Kabale homicide team led by Kigezi regional SOCO D/AIP Mugabe Derrick was able to visit the scene and process it, exhibiting cartridges and rifle no. UGPOL. UF 20291999 -14771 with suspected blood stains recovered.

The body of the deceased police officer was retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

A Murder by shooting incident was also registered at Kabale central police station under the file number CRB.232/2023 as more inquiries are at hand.
