CORRUPTION AT ITS PEAK IN NTUNGAMO; OVER 25 DISTRICT STAFF ON SPOT

At least 30 Ntungamo district Local government employees have been arrested over mismanagement in a period of one month.
These were arrested in a month-long investigation by the statehouse health monitoring unit personnel who were in the district to monitor the performance of health systems.
15 of the arrested were medical workers and medical administrators of health units according to a report by the team.
The report which was released to the Ntungamo district stakeholders at the district council hall on Wednesday November 9, by the unit deputy head Dr. Julian Nabatanzi specified key leakages and mismanagement indicators in the health system as well as key breakthroughs in some health centres.
Dr. Nabatanzi said the team that started their investigations at the beginning of October first arrested the officers in charge for Rukoni, Rwashamaire, Rubaare and Kitwe health centres.
They later arrested the Ntungamo Chief Administrative Officer, his Chief Finance Officer, District Internal uditor and Senior Internal Auditor.
Other health workers were arrested from different health units including private health facilities according to Dr. Brian Asiimwe the head of medical investigations at the unit.
None of the arrested was however produced in court over the accusations against them. They were all released on police bond.
The team said they found out that over Shs. 3Billion was mismanaged in various health units in the district and the district health office.
