Uganda breezed through to the semifinals of this year’s COSAFA Women’s Championship after a blistering performance against Zimbabwe on Monday.
The Crested Cranes registered a 2-1 win to finish top in group C on seven points and advance to the last four stage.
Second half substitute Juliet Nalukenge and captain Tracy Jones Akiror-both players from FUFA Women Elite League Champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC scored a goal each in the second half to edge past the 2011 champions.
Faridah Bulega, the Crested Cranes head coach made only one change from the team that started against Namibia on Saturday with Phiona Nabbumba replacing Hasifa Nassuuna.
Despite starting on a slow note, Uganda put up a resuscitated performance in the second half to garner maximum points.
Upon restart, Bulega called for the first substitution with Shamira Nalujja paving way for the 2016 FUFA Woman Player of the year Nassuna.
Nalukenge who came on for Resty Nanziri in the 55th minute broke the deadlock with 17 minutes on the clock after all the donkey work from youngster Lilian Mutuuzo. The latter got injured in the process and was replaced by Norah Alupo.
Akiror doubled Uganda’s lead in the 78th minute heading home from Nassuuna’s delivery from a corner kick.
Zimbabwe got their consolation in the 90th minute but the Crested Cranes remained composed to get all three points as 6 minutes of added time were played.
Uganda finished top in group C on seven points ahead of Zimbabwe(six), Namibia(four) and Swaziland with no point.

CAF LICENCED COACHES ENROLL FOR FUFA MANAGERS’ COURSE
FUFA Managers’ Course:
17th -21st September 2018 at Jevine Hotel
10th – 15th January 2019 at FUFA Technical Center
10th -15th February 2019 at Jevine Hotel
FUFA Football Managers Course for CAF A Licenced coaches in Uganda has rolled off at Jevine Hotel, Rubaga in Kampala.
The course is aiming at facilitating the coaches with knowledge that will qualify them to become accomplished managers for clubs and players.
The new course consists of 4 modules in the areas of leadership and Management, coaches and their performance, professional communications, Business Marketing and Finance Management.
However, the modules are to be taught in three different demacated periods with in three months. The first one kicked off on Monday 17th and will run till 21st September 2018 at Jevine Hotel.
The second enrollment is set for January 10th to 15th 2019 at FUFA Technical Center and the last will be attended from 10th -15th February 2019 at Jevine Hotel.
While facilitating the coaches, FIFA Instructor Eng. Magogo urged coaches to improve on their computer skills in acquiring statistical information for players and the team.
He cautioned coaches not to engage in doping activities and advised them to always be in position to have an idea of the latest status of their club players
Furthermore, Eng Magogo emphasized coaches to understand the contracts and agreements of their players.
‘As we plan to have the best coaches on the continent, we must educate you to become Club Managers. You should improve on your computer skills that are vital in acquiring statistical information for your players and the team’ said Eng Magogo.
‘You should not engage yourselves in doping activities and always monitor the status of your players. You should also follow the contracts of your players so that you can understand when and how to renew them’ added Eng Magogo added.
FUFA Human Resource Capacity Building Manager Jackson Nyiima confirmed the course will cover 400 hours.
“We are here to conduct a new Club Managers course for CAF A licensed coaches. The course will be spread into three sections” said Nyiima
‘The objectivie is to prepare the coaches and become qualified Club Managers. We need people who can manage the Club and at the same time players’ added Nyiima.
15 coaches are taking part in the course that is facilitated by FIFA Instructor Eng. Moses Magogo, CAF Instructors Jackson Nyiima, Ali Mwebe, Mujib Kasule and Kyambadde Stone.
