In Sheema—
Dr Asiimwe Davis, in charge Kabwohe health Centre 4 in Sheema district was on Tuesday 16th October arraigned before the Bushenyi grade one magistrate court Asanasio Mukobi on allegations of torturing and breaking the camera of a TV West journalist Sheikh Abdurhatifu at Kabwohe health Centre last year.
Asiimwe told the asked court to chase away the eye witnesses whom he said that they were to give false information against him.
However the magistrate dismissed Asiimwes appeal saying that “this isn’t a medical camp where you order and they all do as you wish.I am not here to work on your orders but as law says.”
Tonny Masende an officer attached to Kabwohe police station told the court that him and his fellow police men found Abdurhatifu lying on the ground holding his broken camera, crying with some injuries and full of dust. He added that by the time of their arrival, Dr Asiimwe had already quit the scene.
Kisolo Muslim, told court that he saw Dr Asiimwe with another man trying to grab Abdurhatifu’s camera whereby one was touching the leg and another one on the neck.
The incident occurred as Abduhartifu was following the story of Kiconco Faridah who was tested HIV positive by Dr Amon at the same health centre in 2011 and later in 2017 tested HIV negative by Dr Asiimwe. It is alleged that the ARVS she used to take made her suffer to an extent of changing colour plus abdominal pain all the time.
According to Muslim the husband to Faridah said that Dr Asiimwe warned him never to tell anyone about the incident especially politicians and journalists, that he was also promised that if he keeps the secret her wife was to be looked after in all means for free to make sure that her rescued.
Muslim added that due to the poor conditions his wife was facing, he decided to tell the story to journalists hoping that if the government or sympathizers see it, they could give them a financial support.
It is alleged that when Abduhartifu went to doctor Asiimwe to confirm whether what was said was true or false, he was instead beaten up.
The hearing was later adjourned to Monday 22nd October this year
