COVID 19 KATUNTU COMMITTEE VISITS BUSHENYI, FINDS ENORMOUS PROBLEMS

Bushenyi District Health Officer Dr. Edward Mwesigye has asked the government to regionalize testing of COVID 19.
He noted that for instance, let those from Bushenyi be tested at Mbarara regional referral hospital arguing that once samples are taken to Kampala they take up to two weeks to return and this has crippled COVID 19 management.
Dr. Edward was briefing the visiting committee of parliament chaired by Abdul Katuntu that is tasked to review and access COVID 19 health standards.
The committee is divided into four cluster and the Western Uganda cluster is headed by Dr. Joseph Ruyonga MP Hoima west and former DHO Hoima district.
David Byamukama the District commercial officer who is also a member of Bushenyi COVID 19 taskforce revealed that the most appropriate solutions to COVID 19 is vaccination.
He noted that he watched the Europa finals up to 1:00 between Italy and England on Sunday but none was putting on a mask because they were all vaccinated.
The host member of parliament Annet Katusiime Mugisha woman MP hailed members of parliament for visiting Bushenyi though it does not have a referral hospital
On contrary, Ms. Annet Mugisha raised an issue of banana process factory which is currently dormant while bananas in the villages are in plenty, being sold between1000-2000.
Dan Kimosho the Member of Parliament for Kazo County in greater Mbarara donated oxygen cylinders to the district.
Francis Mwijukye from Buhweju County heard the cries of health workers for not being given allowances and donated one millions while other parliamentarians supported the cause to raise a total of around 2.3 million.
The DHO Dr. Edward Mwesigye revealed that Bushenyi district lost one person to COVID 19 during the first wave while it has now so far lost 10 in the latest wave.
He lamented over shortage testing kits in the district wondering how national medical stores car can supply between 50- 100 testing kits to Bushenyi which will take only half a day.
He revealed that 21 health workers have contracted COVID 19 and 80% are already cured but none of them went into ICU.
