COVID-19 POSITIVE TRUCK DRIVER INTERCEPTED AT CHANIKA BORDER

Residents in Kisoro are living in fear as one of the 11 truck drivers who tested positive for Covid19 was intercepted at Chanika border in Kisoro district.
The Kenyan truck driver was intercepted on Friday morning as he trekked from Rwanda heading for Mombasa in Kenya.
The driver in question had traveled to Rwanda through the same border post on Thursday April 23rd 2020.
According to the Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Capt. Peter Mugisha, Security personnel had cordoned off the driver and his truck to ensure that he doesn’t move out and escape.
Capt. Mugisha added that the Kisoro District Covid19 Task Force is considering transferring the patient to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for isolation.
Nsabiyumva Steven the Kisoro District Health Officer, said that the driver had traveled with a turn man and another person who are also being traced.
Uganda has so far registered 74 COVID-19 cases, according to the Health Ministry. Eleven of the new cases are all truck drivers, six of them from Tanzanians while the rest are Kenyans.
