COVID 19 VACCINATION LAUNCHED IN MBARARA, RCC WARNS HEALTH WORKERS AGAINST SELLING VACCINES

Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital has today launched Covid 19 vaccination in the district with Dr. Celestine Barigye the hospital director getting the first shot.
The district has received a total of 5450 doses of Astrazeneca Covid 19 jab and the vaccination process will officially commence on Monday 15/march/2021 with Health workers within entire Mbarara.
Dr. Celestine Barigye urged health workers from both Private and government hospitals to go for vaccination since they are at the forefront of fighting the disease.
Dr. Barigye revealed that the district health department has so far gazetted 5 vaccination Centres at; Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, Kamukuzi, Mbarara district Headquarters, Mbarara City Health Centre IV, Kakoba Health Centre III and Rubindi Health Centre III.
He cautioned the public to disregard rumors making rounds on social media that the vaccine brought by the government will pose health threats to their lives noting that the vaccine was accredited by the World Health Organisation.
According to Barigye the hospital has handled 560 cases since 17th May 2020 and 323 were home based cases; 48 lost the battle to the disease including one of their doctor. They currently have two patients; one at the hospital isolation Centre and another one receiving treatment from home.
However ,the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Lt. Col. James Mwesigye who doubles as the chairman Mbarara City COVID 19 Task Force who was also vaccinated warned those who intend to sell the vaccine to people not to dare risk since they will be apprehended.
