FRACAS AT RUKUNGIRI DISTRICT COUNCIL AS COUNCILLORS’ ALLOWANCES DELAYED

Drama issued at Rukungiri district council hall on Thursday 29/3/2018
as the district councilors protest the delayed unpaid council session
sittings allowances.
Councilors were supposed to have district council financial budget
meeting in yesterday morning but was halted for over four hours as they were outside busy on their phones.
Councilors that were demanding their allowances had spent last three
consecutive council sessions’ proceedings without being paid.
The councilors had wanted the chief administrative officer and chair
person LCV Mr. Anderson Katebire to first clear them before they could sit for meeting.
“We are not going to have a meeting without being paid our money
because we also want to enjoy Easter when we are clear” councilors
said.
After a period of over four hours councilor outside the council hall
chatting and others on their phones, the chair person LCV Mr. Anderson
Katebire immediately rushed to the bank and sent a message through
their phones and then called off the standoff strike and proceeded the
meeting after one hour at around 2:00pm in the afternoon.
Chairpersons of local government are mandated to table before the
council estimates of the revenue and expenditure of the council for
the next ensuing financial year not later than first day of April
every year.
Rukungiri district expects to receive a total of shillings
Ug.sh.35,874,309,787 of which 33,191,391,938 expected from central
government transfer.
