The Kibaale district police commander; David Otabong, said the suspect died at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital during an operation after suffering grave injuries.
Twesiime allegedly attempted to steal a taxi belonging to one Joseph Ariguma; a businessman in Karuguza Town in Kibaale District yesterday 14th Sept2017.
Mr Otabong said Twesiime was cornered by angry residents who barricaded the road at Mituju Trading Centre in Nyamarwa Sub-county, Kibaale District after information circulated on local radio stations about the taxi theft.
Mr Ariguma said the suspect hijacked the car and sped off when he had moved out to pick a passenger’s luggage.
‘‘I allowed him in the vehicle as a passenger but when I got out to collect a passenger’s luggage, he grabbed the vehicle and sped off towards Kakumiro District. The passengers inside made alarms for help but he didn’t heed,’’ he added.
Mr Amon Tumwesigye, the deceased’s brother, confirmed to www.mknewslink.com that Twesiime had history of a mental illness.
“The information I got is that he entered a taxi as a passenger and after seeing that he was being delayed, he jumped into the driver’s seat to drive off. So they thought he was stealing the taxi.”
