DO NOT ADD TO NUMBERS OF UNEMPLOYED YOUTH, STATE HOUSE COMPTROLLER URGES MASINDI GRADUATES

The Uganda State House Controller Jane Barekye has asked the graduates to be job creators but not seekers.
She was on Thursday presiding over the graduation ceremony of 209 trainees at Bunyoro Industrial Hub.
The hub is located in Nyakarongo village Kimengo sub county Buruli Constituency in Masindi district.
Barekye disclosed that the main objective of the industrial hub is to fight against employment among the youth by skilling them.
”The presidential initiative on industrial hubs is to skill the youth to be job creators but not seekers,” she said.
Barekye therefore asked leaders in Bunyoro to prioritize the needy since the industrial hub targets the most needy families.
The state house controller also implored the trainees to put in use the skills attained in order to improve their household income and fight against poverty in their areas.
She therefore asked leaders to ensure the trainess benefit from government programs such as emyooga, parish development model and others to enable them put in use the skills attained.
The Manager Bunyoro Industrial Hub Turyahebwa Scovia Agatha said the students are now well equiped and ready to propel in social economic transformation of Bunyoro and Uganda at large.
She disclosed that they admitted 220 students from the ten administration units of Bunyoro, however, 11 dropped out due to chronic diseases like ulcers, sickle cells and others.
According to Turyahebwa, each administration unit in Bunyoro had a slot of 22 trainees.
The ten administration units in Bunyoro are: Buliisa, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Kibaale, Kagadi, Kikuube, Kakumiro and Hoima districts.
Others are Masindi Municipality and Hoima City.
The hub manager asserted that 209 trainees were assessed for the Directorate Of Industrial Training {DIT} on 21st and 22nd December 2022.
The trainees attained DIT level one certficates in tailoring, welding, hairdressing and carpentry.
Turyahebwa asked the state house controller to increase the admission slots from 220 to 400 due to high demand from the public.
The Masindi district LCV Chairperson Cosmas Byaruhanga revealed that the students who attained the skills were from the most needy families.
He challeged leaders in other districts in the region to ensure the students sent for the training are from the needy families since it targets them.
The Kimengo Sub County LC3 Chairperson Bright Mugume commended the government for the initiative and said will boost the fight against employment in the region.
Bunyoro Industry Hub is among the eleven hubs in the country established under the presidential initiative for establishment of zonal industrial hubs for youth and women.
