The Chief Justice Bart Katurebe has challenged Lawyers not to only focus on professional ethics but also societal ethics as their work is supposed to help society.
Katurebe noted that lawyers should put much emphasize on quality but not money as they are trained to serve society but not themselves. He added that some magistrates, Judges and lawyers compromise the profession for money.
While opening the Law school at Bishop Stuart University (BSU) in Mbarara, Katurebe noted that training law should be beyond written laws but societal ethics are the key and this will help to build justice in the country.
Katurebe warned the lawyers who only focus on winning cases on whichever way no matter harm they have caused that they will tackle them so that they are weeded out of the profession.
He noted that Uganda is receiving many investors who would need the good lawyers thereby urging lawyers to position themselves for such opportunities.
The Vice Chancellor BSU Maud Kamatenesi in her remarks called for integrity and self believe and not focusing that the law school has just been opened but toil to excel for their bright future.
