DR. TANGA ODOI LIFTS SUSPENSION ON HOIMA NRM WOMAN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

The National Resistance Movement-NRM Electoral Commission has uplifted the suspension of the party primaries for the Hoima district Woman Parliamentary race.
NRM party primaries are set to be held on September 4, 2020, across the country however the electoral commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi had on Wednesday evening told media at the party headquarters that elections for Hoima district woman parliamentary race would not take place over fights between supporters of the incumbent Harriet Businge and her tight competitor Beatrice Wembabazi.
However, on Thursday Dr Tanga Odoi told journalists in Hoima town that he decided to uplift the suspension after meeting with all contesting parties at Kolping hotel in Hoima town during a meeting that was attended by the NRM district executive committee members, RDC Hoima and other security personnel.
Tanga said that campaigns resume starting with Friday adding that what will take place between Friday and 3rd September will determine the fate of the election in Hoima district parliamentary race.
He has however sent a stunning warning to those who plan to cause chaos during the campaigns and on the Election Day .
Samuel Kisembo, the Hoima resident district commissioner has asked candidates to be extra careful with their supporters to avoid being denominated by the party electoral commission.
Wembabazi’s political assistant Christine Akugiziibwe said that they are ready for the election but demanded for an official apology from the incumbent to which Businge has told journalists that it was regrettable and condemned it.
Wembabazi was allegedly attacked by Businge’s driver Henry Gama at Kiryatete village in Kigorobya Sub County on 19th August while returning from Lunga landing site where she had gone to consult voters when Gama blocked the road, stopping Wembabazi from crossing through.
The aspirant who is still in Mulago sustained severe injuries on the head, chest and stomach while the driver Julius Birungi sustained injuries on the head.
