DRUG SCARCITY HITS FORT PORTAL CITY AFTER 6 MONTHS WITHOUT DELIVERIES

In Fort Portal——
Health facilities in Fort Portal have run short of essential drugs after the ministry of health failed to reply to requests for now six months.
During their visit to different health facilities, Fort Portal councilors who sit on the general purpose committee were told that the ministry of health has not distributed drugs to the facilities for six months, prompting officials to send back patients due to scarcity.
At Karambi HC III, the councilors were told that even people no longer come to the facility routinely because they are most of the times sent back.
At Kiguma HC II; medics told councilors that they have recycled essential drugs to other centers and now some drugs are used up.
According to medics, when they tender in requests for essential drugs (which they never disclosed) and they are not answered, they resort to borrowing from the nearest facilities and in case they aren’t helped, they send patients away.
Dr. Solomon Asiimwe, the city health officer says it has been a great challenge since Fort Portal city attained the tourism city status.
