Bushenyi Ishaka FDC MP Candidate Odo Tayebwa has said that the electoral commission cannot dare extend the voting date from 14th January 2021 for even one week.
Odo was talking to www.mknewslink.com in an interview today 24th Dec.2020 morning.
Odo’s remark follows a call by Uganda Joint Christian Council UJCC through Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga that government should postpone the election for three years since Covid 19 is on rise and killing people.
The FDC candidate revealed that the call is next to impossible since the constitution states that elections should be held 90 days before the expiry date of term of the office.
He added that in this case, the term will be expiring in May so the suitable date for election is none other than 14th January 2021.
Odo argued that it would have been better if the government had declared the state of emergency as early as possible because of Covid 19 so that the speaker would take over power until the next election is conducted.
