Increased violence during elections has been attributed to weak electoral laws.
This was revealed by Dr. Livingstone Sewanyana, the Executive Director of Foundation of Human rights initiation while sharing views yesterday with stakeholders from greater Ankole sub region at Pelican Hotel Mbarara ahead of 2021 general elections.
Dr. Sewanyana said that people should advocate for more enabling environment where people tolerate each other, appreciate the law better and seek for justice so that the will of the people is respected.
Mwijukye Francis the Member of Parliament Buhweju constituency who was among the panelists appealed to Electoral Commission to change in its system and ban police officers at different polling stations during elections saying that they disrupt peoples peace as they intimidate voters .
He said people only need polling constables at polling centres to organize voters to have free and fair elections without intimidating voters while casting their votes.
