ELEPHANT KILLS WOMAN IN BULIISA

Residents of Waiga village Bugana Parish Buliisa Sub County in Buliisa District were left in shock after their colleague was attacked and killed instantly by an elephant.
The incident happened yesterday morning at around 9: 00am 20th June 2023. The deceased was identified as Janet Bero Pamungu 42, and a resident of the above address.
It is alleged that the deceased had gone with her two children in a nearby bush in Waiga to collect fire wood, upon arrival, they saw a herd of elephants coming to attack them.
When they tried to flee, one of the elephants rushed towards them and attacked and killed her instantly, as the children tried to escape while making an alarm.
Speaking to our reporter, the Chairperson LC1 Waiga village Mr. Charles Ukumu confirmed the incident and said that he was tipped off by the two children of the deceased who told him that their mother had been trampled by an elephant.
Ukumu disclosed that, this prompt him to call the LC3 Chairperson and the officials from UWA as they rushed at the scene finding the deceased body lying in a pool of blood with intestines out.
The Buliisa Sub County LC3 Chairperson Mr. Kamanda Kabagambe said that, the body of the deceased was taken at Bulisa general hospital for postmortem.
Kamanda asked the UWA authorities to compensate the grieved family and also speed up the process to fencing the park so that people are protected.
The Buliisa Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. Allan Atugonza told our reporter that he has raised so many issues about wildlife-human conflict to almost all government offices in vain.
The legislator vowed that they will not allow wildlife to become superior over human beings adding that they are engaging civil society organizations, government, UWA so that they eliminate wild animals existing among the community.
