ENG. SILVER MUGISHA ATTACKS INDIAN CONTRACTORS OVER DELAYED COMPLETION OF KAHENGYE WATER PROJECT

The National water and sewerage co-operation managing director Dr. Silver Mugisha has expressed disappoint with a contractor employed to work on the Kahegye multi-Billion Shilling gravity water flow project.
In July 2016, a 44 Billion Shillings Kahengye water project was commissioned by the president of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and it was contracted by an Indian engineering company Technofab Engineering Ltd to be completed within a period of one year.
The water project was co-funded by the World Bank and the government to provide safe water for human consumption in the sub-counties of Kebisoni, Buyanja, Rukungiri municipality, Bugangari and Nyakagyeme all in Rukungiri district and some parts of Ntungamo district.
However four and half years now, the project has never been completed a thing that caused frustrations to the Dr. Mugisha of NWSC.
Dr. Mugisha said that he was very disappointed that the project was yet to be completed and vowed to the project so that it is completed.
“Am completely disappointed that the project which was supposed to provide water to the people of Rukungiri has delayed to this extent. I have agreed with the permanent secretary of the ministry of water to give us a letter on Monday 1st March, we shall take over the project and have it completed in time,” Dr. Mugisha said.
“NWSC has enough money to finish the project, if you have problems with the ministry go and sort yourselves but let’s finish this project because Ugandans in Rukungiri want water. Your disorganization shouldnot affect Innocent Ugandans. There is no time if you have problem with COVID-19, NWSC has no problem with it for us what we need is a completed a project,”Mugisha noted.
“Let me tell you, the president does not know you, you are just an agent of the ministry, if you can’t complete the project we are here to have completed I don’t even know why you are here. NWSC is ready and willing to delivery water to the people of Rukungiri in time”. Dr. Mugisha no
Sam Kigundu, the manager NWSC Rukungiri area said that the project was supposed to be completed in 2018 but the contractor run bankrupt and he is apparently unable to complete the project.
The manager added that since the NWSC has now taken over the project from the contractor, it will be completed with a short period of time. Once project completed it will producing 9.6 million liters of water on daily basis to solve the problem of water in Rukungiri district.
The construction site manager only identified as Mr. Vanish failed to give any comment concerning the reasons as to why the project delayed to this extent.
