EPILEPSEY HITS OVER 1500 IN IBANDA

Ankole Bishop Rtd. Rev. Sheldon Mwesigwa has asked government to intervene in fighting epilepsy that has since attacked 1,625 people in Kicuzi Sub County Ibanda district.
Bishop Sheldon is worried about Epilepsy which attacks the nervous system making a person unconscious with violent body movements.
While speaking at the launch of awareness on how to combat epilepsy at kacuzi subcounty on Friday, Bishop Sheldon said government and international community should offer extra support in fighting the disease from the district.
Irimya, Kanywambogo and Ryabatenga parishes are the most affected in Kicuzi Sub County Ibanda district.
He advised advised the public to take children for testing so that they can be given special care from the nearest health facilities.
Ibanda District Health Officer,Dr. Julius Bamwine said 1,625 people in Kicuzi sub county have been diagnosed with epilepsy yet there were 861 cases of epilepsy between 2014-2016.
He said at least a family of ten members; six are infected with epilepsy in Kcuzi Sub County.
“we are concerned with residents worries about epilepsy disease in the district but our staff is working hard to curb down the disease so that children can attend school and church services without getting a problem” Dr. Julius said
