In Rukungiri—
The opposition Forum for Democratic Change in Rukungiri district is still celebrating the court ruling that yesterday threw out of parliament the NRM’s Win Masiko and ordered for fresh election.
Court of Appeal yesterday threw out of parliament Winnie Komuhangi Matsiko and invalidated her election as the Rukungiri Woman MP.
NRM’s Win Masiko
Justices including Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny- Dolo and Paul Mugamba yesterday ruled in favour of Matsiko’s political rival, FDC’s Betty Bamukwasa Muzanira.
Muzanira filed a petition challenging Masiko’s election and seeking a vote recount after losing the February 2016 elections. The Electoral Commission was also dragged to court in regards to the irregularities.
At the heart of the petition were results from three sub-counties of Nyakishenyi, Nyarushanje, and Nyakagyeme.
In March 2016, the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate’s Court dismissed Muzanira’s application with costs, forcing her to petition Court .of Appeal.
According to results announced by the district registrar; Pius Ahimbisibwe, Matsiko polled 58,994 while Muzanira got 54,966. Muzanira, however, accused the Electoral Commission of committing errors during the announcement of the results and in the declaration forms.
The MP Rukungiri municipality;Hon.Rolland Kaginda who also doubles as the deputy opposition whip in Parliament says that there is need to celebrate because the by-election is an inevitable win for the party.
He adds that this is the right time to wipe out all fake leaders who committed treason by endorsing the age limit removal. He urged all voters in Rukungiri district to take this advantage to show the whole country that they were not in favour of scrapping Article 102(b) from the constitution of Uganda.
