Former FDC party president Major Gen. Mugisha Muntu challenged Members of Parliament to put President Yoweri Museveni to task and explain what kind of security threat they are exposed to.
Muntu says failure by the president to provide through explanation MPs should not approve the required amount of money to immediately procure escort vehicles and the provision of sharpshooters for all members of parliament.
The president gave a directive in a letter dated June 29, 2018, to minister of Finance Matia Kasaija.
In the letter the president noted that members of parliament have been singled out for intimidation and possible attack and that he has decided to protect them as the country awaits putting in place other security systems.
His concern also follows an outcry from a section of legislators for additional security following an increase in cases of kidnaps and murders of women, Muslim clerics, and a number of other prominent people over the last two years.
The latest was the assassination of Ibrahim Abiriga, the former Arua municipality MP last month.
Muntu said it can’t be possible that all the MPs are being threatened and suggested that security can only be provided to those who requested for it or else there should be blanket security arrangement for all citizens in the country.
Muntu was in Shema campaigning FDC party candidate Virginia Plan Mugyenyicontesting for Shema municipality parliamentary seat.
He urged people to vote in pattern that shows the top leadership that they can be manipulated any more.
