Western Meridian Hotel, one the biggest hotels in western Uganda worth about 5 billion Uganda shillings was closed today morning June 08, 2017 over a debt of about 1.3 billion shillings.
Court brokers raided the hotel at about 7:00am and ordered guests to move out of the hotel. They still carried easily movable goods like chairs, food, chicken ware, bottles to unknown destination.
All workers were ordered out of the hotel. The hotel transferred a workshop of Ankole coffee producers to a nearby Hotel, Tuzza hotel which was supposed to be conducted there today.
Court brokers who acted with ruthlessness were armed with about four guns.
The brokers refused to speak to any journalists who eargly waited for the head of the operation to come out of the hotel. He drove off in a mark 11 car and promised to come back but in vain.
Sources close to the owner of the hotel Mr. Deo Owobusingye aka Musiiba told www.mknewslink.com editor at the hotel that, court brokers were working on instructions of Uganda Development Bank which is demanding about 1.3 billion shillings.
Mr. Musiiba has since 2010 when he opened his mega hotel faced problems of cash; many banks have been demanding a lot of money from but he has been paying them slowly.
