FIRE BURNS FORMER PRESIDENT MUSEVENI’S SCHOOL IN NTUNGAMO DISTRICT

Police in Rwizi is investigations circumstances under which one student was left dead as fire gutted a block housing two male dormitories at Kyamate secondary school in Ntungamo municipality.
According to ASP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi police spokesperson, the fire outbreak happened at around at 09:00Pm in the evening at Kyamate secondary school.
“The cause of the fire is currently unknown but so far one dead as a result of fire has been confirmed while three are in critical condition and admitted at Itoojo hospital” Kasasira said in a brief statement.
Kasasira said that the body of the deceased was taken to Itoojo hospital for a postmortem report.
He added that police fire brigade swung into action and was able to contain the fire.
This incident come at a time when cases of school fires had greatly reduced around the country.
According to Uganda police 2021, Annual crime report, a total of 1,258 fire emergencies were handled in 2021 compared to 1,015 in 2020, registering a 23.9% increase.
President Museveni and other prominent people got their elementary education at Kyamate Senior Secondary school in 1950s.
These fire outbreaks were mainly attributed to negligence, electrical short circuits, and unattended candles among others.
A recent police report Indicated that most school fires are set deliberately by persons with ill motives.
