Fire that broke out a long Mpiira street in Ibanda municipality on Saturday morning destroyed property worth millions of shillings in a motor garage. The garage is known as Alex Motor Services Company limited situated along Mpiira Street.
The garage Director Alex Tibandeeba noted that the fire is suspected to have started from a heap of dried gabage near his garage. He said the fire broke out at 4.00 am and the security guard called Moses Lukwago raised an alarm that attracted the neigbours who tried to put it off but all in vain.
Police was then called for help and the fire department arrived at scene when several properties had burnt into ashes.
Tibandeeba said that property which included spare parts, spanners, and welding machines worth shs. 103.36 million were all destroyed.
He added that twenty chicken and two puppies also perished in the fire.
JB Mugimba the laison officer told the press that after the police received the news it rushed to the scene to put off the fire, but most of items were burnt to ashes. He said the police are investigating the cause of the fire.
