FIRST WESTERN UGANDA’S TEACHER OF ENGLISH BURIED IN KIRUHURA

Residents of Kazo town council in Kiruhura district and several people fromdifferent parts of Ugandayesterday gathered to pay their last respect and celebrate the life of thefirst teacher of English in western Uganda, Violet Buriiro.
She succumbed to cancer on Wednesday at age of 91 years after being hospitalized in one of the hospitals in Kampala and was buried yesterday at Bwensirabo cell in Kazo town.
Violet Buriiro wasone of thefirst teachers of English from1944 and served for over 30 years as a head mistress in different schools including KibuburaGirlsprimary school in Ibanda district and Kazo primary school in Kiruhura district before she retired from the active service.
She qualified as a teacher from Buloba College in Kampala in 1943, but left a significant legacy inmany schools and to students she taught.
The formerWoman Member of Parliament for Ibanda district, Ms. Margaret Kiboijana described Violet Buriiro as a lady dedicated to both God and her work.
She left behind a son and 15 grandchildren.
