FIVE ARRESTED IN KISORO FOR STRANGLING RETIRED TEACHER TO DEATH

The territorial police in Kisoro have made significant progress in their investigation after arresting five suspects who allegedly strangled a retired primary teacher to death in Kamonyi Cell, Northern Division.
Police identified the suspects as Peter Ndagijimana aged 20, a resident of Karumina Cell Central Division Kisoro Municipality, Isaac Nkurikiyimana, 27, a butcher Angela Utuze aged 22 a Rwandan bar attendant residing in Kekubo, Karenina Ward, Northern Division, Angela Muhawemana, 20, a Rwandan bar attendant who was staying in Gishera, Nyagashinge Ward, Northern Division and William Nzamoye, 28, a boda boda rider.
According to the police statement, Joy Nyiramuhisha, 62, a retired primary teacher a resident of Kamonyi Cell, Kamonyi Ward, Northern Division, Kisoro Municipality, was murdered by unknown assailants on the night of June 26, 2024.
The motive was to steal 16 million Ugandan shillings, which the victim had raised through a land sale and after her body was found locked in one of the rooms in the boys’ quarters.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman, told journalists on Tuesday 09/07/2024 that the suspects confessed to the crime. He also mentioned that some of the deceased’s belongings, including a TV, remote, and decoder, were recovered from the suspects’ possession.
Maate added that while inquiries are still ongoing, the suspects will be arraigned before the courts of law to face charges accordingly.
