In Ntungamo—
Residents of Ntungamo Municipality woke up to shock on Saturday morning after recovering a lifeless body of a 17 months old child in a wetland.
The child had gone missing from his parents on Friday evening.
The boy child Jezerel Aryatuha was allegedly swept away by floods on Friday evening in the Ntungamo main drainage trench in cell 4, Muko ward near the NRM offices that normally floods when it rains heavily.
Ms Annah Kyasimire Kabate the mother of the child said he had gone playing with other children when it started raining.
They thought he together with the other children took shelter from rain in one of the neighbors’ houses but when the rain ceased at around 6:20pm they looked around and could not get him.
His body was the next morning on Saturday recovered at the end point of the drainage channel in the main wetland.
The Ntungamo district police commander Robert Kuzaara confirmed the incident and said police are investigating the real cause of the death of the young boy as they await results of a postmortem examination.
The Eastern division chairperson Mr Elias Kakyafu decried the incident saying the drainage channel has become a death trap.
