Police in Mbarara city have arrested former Banyankole Kweterana Managers over mismanagement of the union funds.
Emmanuel Natukunda the former chairman of the Mbarara based Union and Andrew Kagwa the former treasurer were arrested on Friday last week by police over alleged mismanagement of the union funds amounting to ugx.331 million.
This came to limelight on Friday last week during the 49th. Annual general meeting after the external audit reports implicated the duo to have a hand in the missing of ugx.331 million.
Delegates with great anger thus asked the minister of state for Trade cooperatives Fredrick Gume Ngobi to issue arrest orders for the implicated officials.
In response to angry delegates, the minister of state Of Trade and Cooperatives ordered police to take charge and arrest the two officers on charges of mismanaging the union funds.
Ngobi told www.mknewslink.com publication that arrest of the two officers followed a number of complaints from a section of delegates who had tarnished his name on social media to be among the parties who swindled the union funds.
The special audit reports of the union’s accounts pin the union Chairman Emmanuel Natukunda to have conspired with the general manager Nelson Nuwahebwa , Operation Manager Rwobusingye Elias ,and the union’s treasurer Andrew Kagwa to embezzle part of ugx.1 billion compensation package from government for the losses incurred by the union during the 1980’s NRA war that brought NRM government into Power.
