FORMER FDC PARTY PRESIDENT DR. KIZZA BESIGYE MOURNS FALLEN BISHOP MAGEZI

As north Kigezi Diocese, and the entire country continues to mourn the death of Bishop Benon Magezi, a number of political and religious leaders have joined the aggrieved family in comforting them and the diocese.
Rt Rev Magezi who died on Tuesday at Mulago National Referral Hospital after losing the battle to COVID-19 is slated to be laid to rest today at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
The Rujumbura County legislator in Rukungiri District and Minister of Security Gen Jim Katugugu Muhwezi was the first to grieve with the family on his official social media accounts.
Muhwezi posted that he regrets the passing on of Bishop Benon Magezi of North Kigezi Diocese, a post that drew many Christians and Ugandans who knew Magezi in person. “I regret to announce the passing of our beloved Bishop Benon Magezi, more information to be communicated later” Muhwezi posted.
Just like Gen Muhwezi, the former FDC Presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye who hails from Rukungiri Municipality also expressed his condolence to the family and friends asserting that the Bishop is in God’s hands now.
“Just got the shocking news of the passing on of COU Bishop of North Kigezi, Rt Rev Benon Magezi. So sad but I believe he is in the arms of the Lord. Heartfelt sympathy to his dear wife Gladys and the family, the diocese and people of Kigezi, and all dear friends. RIP” Besigye posted.
Another Prominent opposition figure and former Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also took to his official Facebook account to condole with the family. Kyagulanyi says he was saddened by the news of Bishop Magezi’s death thus calling upon the Christians and the family in prayer in this trying moment.
“I am saddened to learn the passing on of Rt. Rev. Benon Magezi, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese. I take this opportunity to convey my sincere condolences to the late Bishop’s family, and to the entire Church of Uganda fraternity. May the Almighty comfort you during this trying moment, and give the Bishop’s soul eternal rest” Kyagulanyi posted.
The former Rukungiri Municipality legislator Hon Roland Mugume Kaginda told www.mknewlink.com reporter that Bishop Magezi will remain in the hearts of everyone for he was a counselor and an advisor.
Hon Kaginda says the fallen Bishop was development oriented citing an example of Cathedral construction that he had started and the progress he was spearheading during his time of service.
Bishop George Bagamuhunda of the diocese of Kigezi says Magezi was a humble sherphard who ensured his flock is taken care of.
Former Diocesan Secretary Gershom Muhanga notes that the diocese will always remember Bishop Magezi for the efforts to improve people’s welfare for example WATSAN water project, construction of Besania SACCO.
