In Mbarara—-
The former Member of Parliament Rwampara District Charles Ngabirano has been ordered by state house legal department to vacate the land he grabbed in Nyakabungo cell Mbarara city.
It is said that Ngabirano grabbed the land last year claiming that he held a licence from National Forestry Authority (NFA) to operate a commercial nursery bed.
However, in a two page letter dated 29th.Sept.2021 served to the Resident City Commissioner Mbarara city, State House legal department directed the ex- legislator to vacate immediately following a petition from the owners of the land Akatukwasa Benia and Barigye Phenehas.
The letter states that a surveyor dully commissioned by the ministry of lands has since established that the land does not fall in the NFA’s gazetted land.
The department therefore advises Ngabirano to approach the management of National Forestry Authority to grant him an alternative portion of land for his activities specified in the licence.
Our reporter tried to speak to Ngabirano through his known number but unfortunately the ex-legislator could not pick the numerous calls.
This is not the first time Charles Ngabirano is implicated in land grabbing saga.
In 2018 Ngabirano was implicated in grabbing Mbarara district land located on Booma hill in the then Mbarara municipality that hosted the district veterinary offices.
Joy Kabatsi who was the then minister in charge of Animal industry clarified that the land belonged to the government and wondered how the legislator claimed its ownership.
However, Ngabirano said he had bought the land from a local resident Grace Muhirwe on a sum of undisclosed amount of money.
