FORMER RUKUNGIRI MAYOR CANDIDATE ARRESTED FOR EVADING TAXES

The former mayor candidate for Rukungiri Municipality Otik Balikudembe is now detained at Rukungiri police station for allegedly fighting the municipal enforcement team who had gone to arrest him for evading taxes.
Balikudembe who is also a business man in Rukungir municipality is alleged to have been evading municipal taxes, a reason why enforcement officers yesterday Friday 23, Feb,2018 went to arrest him.
However, when the enforcement team arrived at his stores to arrest him, Barikudembe resisted against the arrest, thus fighting the officers.
The fight that lasted for two hours attracted police intervention before Balikudembe was arrested and taken to Rukungiri central police station.
Barikudembe operates a charcoal store in Rukungiri
central market in room number 41.
According to Mr. Living; the tenderer of Rukungiri central market, Balikudembe has been dodging to pay municipal taxes for over three years.
He says says Balikudembe brings his stoke during the night with an intention to dodge the enforcement team collecting taxes within the market.
Mr. Living added that otiko has refused to pay a total of over one
million five hundred thirty thousand shillings (1530, 000) for the
three years since 2016 up-to-date.

The Rukungiri municipality enforcement officer;Justus Wensi said
that Balikudembe wrote a statement at his office and after they handed over him to Rukungiri police station for further investigations.
He added that his lorry registration number UAD439G together with 45
bags of charcoal was also impound and taken to Rukungiri municipality
offices and each bag charged 500shillings so for today he
was supposed to pay 225,000 shillings.
However, Balikudembe denied that he owes money to the municipal council .“I cleared their taxes long time ago they are not demanding anything from me so I don’t see the reason why they are disturbing me”. Balikudembe said.
