Fort Portal City Authorities have scrapped off daily tax payment by vendors but instead consolidated into annual lenience.
Addressing a press conference at Booma, Asaba Edison Ruyonga the Fort Portal City Mayor says the scrapping of daily tax payment by vendors came after leaders realized that some people were being cheated by the council.
He cited out local market vendors who pay 1,000sh per day as tax and once it’s totaled, they find themselves having paid over a million in a year which is unfair.
According to Asaba, in the new policy, the city technical team will assess the income and capital of the vendor which assessment will determine which fair tax one should pay annually.
Prosper Businge, the City Secretary for Finance says they will rollout sensitization meetings to create awareness on how tax should be paid as per the new policy.
The City Town Clerk Tibihika Theophilus promised to implement the directives of the executive as mandated.
