The Fort portal municipality division councils have rejected the garbage collection fees proposed by the municipal council.
According to councilors, the Fort Portal municipal council resolved that all the three divisions of Fort portal municipality including East, West and South pay 50,000shs in a bid to reduce on the heap of garbage in town.
According to resolution, each division has to pay 50,000shs per trip five times a day amounting to 250000shs and the center which is the municipal council is paying 19000shs only.
The division council said that the money proposed for them to pay is too much since the divisions have less revenue collections than the center.
Ndamira Musirikale councilor representing Nyabukara ward West division said that councilors tried to advise the council on the money increase abut they were not heard.
He also accused the town clerks and LC3 who shun away from municipal council meetings.
Herbert Mugisa the division chairperson for South division termed this as unfair.
Mugisa said that with all the revenue collections the center has, to only pay 19000shs is unfair even though garbage collection in the town is a collective responsibility.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Fort portal Mayor Rev.Willy Kintu Muhanga asked the division chairpersons to stop blame game.
The Mayor said that the town clerk is going to call all the division chairpersons to mediate on how to pay the money meant to remove garbage out of town.
He further noted that this was a council resolution but since it’s a collective responsibility, they should work together.
