FORT PORTAL MAYOR RUBBISHES ALLEGATIONS ON STREET LIGHTS PRICE

The mayor Fort portal municipality Rev. Kintu Muhanga has rubbished the ongoing allegations that Fort portal municipality have inflated the street light that have been installed in the town.
According to allegations, the street lights installed in town are not worth the money that they have been inflated.
Herbert Mugisa the LC3 South division said that each street light installed is at 6.5M shillings but the one installed is claimed to have cost 14M shillings.
However the Mayor Muhanga said that the council bought the street lights according to the world bank standards explaining that all street lights installed in Fort portal are the same like the onesinall municipalities supported by world bank including Mbarara ,Gulu ,Hoima,Arua,Jinja and among others.
Rev. Muhanga has disclosed that 54 street lights of 80 warts worth 756,000, 000Mshs have been bought whereby each was at 14M shillings.
They were installed in by Abukar Company limited who was a warded with a contract by the municipality using Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructural Development (USMID) money with funding from World Bank.
Muhanga disclosed that the street lights Hebert Mugisa and other residents are complaining about are of 40 warts thus each costs 6.5 M shillings.
He has further disclosed that installing of street lights were agreed on by the municipal council thus condemning some leaders politicking that they have no knowledge about the lights installation.
Meanwhile Muhanga has attributed all these to cheap politicking by some leaders who are the enemies of development.
