The Fort portal municipal councilors have tasked the town clerk Geoffrey Bamanyisa to produce the Memorandum of understanding signed between Fort portal municipality and Rwenzori enterprises on a 165 acre Mwenge land in Kyenjojo district.
This was during a council sitting at Tooro Botanical gardens West division Fort portal municipality.
Ndamira Joseph Musirikale councilor for Nyabukara ward and Kenneth Kaliba Youth councilor Fort portal municipality asked the Mayor Rev. Kintu Willy Muhanga to explain to the council the whereabouts of the MOU that was signed when leasing the land to Rwenzori enterprises for two years as passed by the council.
However the mayor informed the council that he has never seen the MOU and the town clerk should explain.
According to councilors, in 2017, Fort portal municipality leased Mwenge land at 42M shillings to Rwenzori enterprises for two years to be growing Cassava but unfortunately, the council has never seen the MOU.
However there was a contradiction between the secretary for finance Unice Habomugisha and chairperson finance Faith Nyakairu about the money.
Habomugisha told council that the company has paid council 40M shillings and Nyakairu informed council that the lease contract was extended without council’s knowledge whereby 12M shillings has been paid which confused the council.
Meanwhile when defending himself, the town clerk Bamanyisa informed the council that since he is still new in the office, he did not find any document about Mwenge land.
However, he said that he only saw a receipt of 40M and promised the council to follow up the case then bring them a report in next council.
The council resolved to extend the matter to the next council and if they fail, they take legal action to access the MOU.
