FORT PORTAL POLICE OFFICER SHOOTS DEAD DRUG DEALER, INJURES ONE

Police in Fort portal Kabarole district are investigating circumstances under which a police officer attached to Bukuku police post shot two people where one died on spot.
According to Lydia Tumushabe the Kabarole police public relations officer, police led by the Karago OC station AIP Kamara Gabriel together with the area LC1 carried an operation to arrest drug dealers in the area whom are believed to have been terrorizing the public on Monday morning at around 6:00Am at Bulera Zone, Kitarasa parish Karago town council.
Tumushabe adds that the police had gathered information from the LC1 whose names are withheld, that the deceased identified as Richard Atugonza and his brother Abdul Tugume were involving in selling Marijuana.
She explains that Atugonza came out with a panga together with his brother Tugume who was holding a spear tried to attack police which led to their shooting.
During the scuffle, Tugume speared the OC on the chest.
Tumushabe narrates that police tried to shot in the air to disarm the duo in vain hence firing live bullets inform of self defense. The OC tried to shoot the deceaseds hand that was carrying the spear but unfortunate it caught the chest and Tugume in the leg.
AIP Kamara is currently at Fort portal regional referral hospital and Tugume at Virika hospital where they are nursing wounds and Atugonzas body was given to relatives for burial.
However Tumushabe disclosed that the OC will not be charged of any offence but adds that investigations on Tugume are ongoing and when he is found guilty will be charged accordingly.
